Event : Goodwood Roller Marathon
Date : 30th July 2006
Website : http://www.goodwoodmarathon.co.uk/
Goodwood Roller Marathon is a great day out and a perfect start if you are new to skating marathons. All skaters are welcome no matter what level or style of skating. The marathon is 11 laps of the Famous Goodwood motor circuit.
Goodwood Roller Marathon has always been run for charity and this year is be no different. Supporting The NCYPE (The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy) we encourage everyone to get sponsored for this event, especially if you have never done a marathon before.
The key thing this year is advanced registration which should hopefully keep costs down both for us as well as you. You can register online as well as by post, the sooner you register and pay the cheaper it is. This year we have microchip timing of the laps as well as a medal for you to take home and keep. More details on the website.
Historically we have had lots of people sign up that are not online. If you know of any people/groups such as this then please print out the registration and sponsorship forms from the website and pass them on. There will be a poster available soon for you to print out as well.
This year Goodwood Roller Marathon is being organised by the Camberley Skaters. This is our first big organised event so all feedback/suggestions appreciated. We hope we can make it the best yet catering for everyone from speed skaters to charity skaters and raise lots of money for The NCYPE along the way.

| Goodwood Inline Marathon will be on the 30th July - as the case late year will be a great warm-up event for the LIM. This year it’s being organised by our erstwhile friends the “Camberley skaters”. Website, details etc to follow... |

| Dan, we'll add it, but do you have a page to link it to (ie, it's own website or the CSkate site?) Links page for Goodwood on CSkate currently goes to the Arun skating site. |

| We should be getting a domain registered shortly. Probably just cskate for the moment, although it's really Dan's call. I'll kick him on ICQ and he'll be along shortly. Perhaps. |

Sorry for the delay, I was wanting to get the site design and mailing list up and running before publishing the URL. The site is now live at http://www.goodwoodmarathon.co.uk/.
This is our first big organised event so all feedback/suggestions appreciated. We hope we can make it the best yet catering for you speed skaters as well as making it fun for charity skaters. |

Hi all,
We've pretty much got the pricing sorted now (I think).
Dan will be along shortly once registration is open and so on.
For the record (as far as I can recall was decided), thsi year we will have
(Drum roll)
Chip timing!
So (hopefully) you'll be able to see your lap times plus be able to prove that you actually finished and CAN count to 11!
Chips can be hired, or bring your own!
More details to follow on the website. |

WOW! Chip timing! No more counting laps following wacky skater advice like tying elastic bands round my wrist or tearing off bits of race number and flinging them over my shoulder or arguing with Farhana ("that was lap 17: No, PeterC fed us doughnuts on lap 17, this is lap 18").
This was my first ever marathon, fresh from the Eddy Matzger course. Picnics, music, skater bonhomie, a nice course, that viscious headwind! I'm soooo looking forward to this. |

You did 17 laps? Doughnuts or otherwise, that's just masochism. |

| I am intending to do a lot of laps this year. Last year I just went hard for the "half" to compare with my British championship time from 2 years before before cruising round to complete the whole race. I am going to go continuously for the full distance and then go skating warm down laps giving encouragement to the other skaters still on the circuit.....unless I am in pain. Might be an idea for you St Gallen people to get some distance in too, except that it's a week before LIM so you may not recover in time. |
