Full marathon results need to be massaged a bit before publication. Not just the usual problems with long laps from the odd failed registration, etc. Not sure the system was reset to the right number of laps after the half marathon either as only 13 seem to have been recorded, so it may take a little time to get them right. Times seem to loose their accuracy after about 1h30m so anyone finishing after that probably won't get a proper time.

A few little questions that could help with the final finishing order.

Fede - did you get up and skate on after your crash? I think we had about 5 or 6 to go at that point

Finish order for Alice, Natasha and Nina. Were you all on the same lap or did you overtake or get overtaken by each other. It would be nice to know to clear up the order. Not sure the officials were aware of the lappings.

I am in dicussion with Jill about it all. We hope to have a definitive list out sometime soon.

Nope, Had a cramp with the fall and couldn't keep going. I just wanted to know how many laps I had left (I suspected 5-6 too) and wanted to see the times to motivate myself a bit more Smile

Pretty sure I finished last, but I had lost count of my laps by then so I kept on going till I saw the other racers had put their pyjamas on and were cleaning their teeth. Think Kay lapped me 2 or 3 times if that helps.

Alistair Brown's photos are downloadable here:

No cost or anything but if we use them somewhere online we should mention his name!

Right then.

Very hot the day before, 5 hours drive from home, most cars arrived at about 5pm at the circuit for a roll around and gear check.

It's lovely, closed, flattish smooth, sheltered, a bit narrow for breaks but still good, turns tight enough to cross over in both directions.

A nice dinner in a surprisingly posh basement restaurant in the center of town after running around trying to find bits to fix people's skates.

Woke up on the day, nice leasurely breakfast then off to the circuit, a fall in the shorter races meant a late start for the main event. Being the British championships there were few non FISS skaters, which made for a tactical rather than co-operative race at the front, (all gunning for a win and not a time).

Soon after the gun a big first line formed with at least 4 members of all the three top teams. Brum, LSST and Powerslide, with us having a spare (me) and Adrian W from North London making up the numbers. This line stayed together with the speed yo-yo'ing as few of the big guns wanted to drive the front. LSST pair and Matt from Brum taking much of the load. Behind them we giggled about myself, Fred and Dan frequently on the back with Powerslide keeping great shape and protecting their boy (Matt P) well. We had to leave Gav and Hans to fend for themselves as did Chris Stafford to some extent.

There were a few breaks, Matt P, Chris, and Hans having a go, heck even I had a few seconds in the sun once (madness it turned out, but I thought the line fancied a laugh). Who broke dictated who chased of course.

This stayed this way for some laps after half time when strain was starting to show, when I saw a break go, with our two in it, and most of Powerslide behind I stood up to split the pack and waited for Powerslide to chase down. They did in the end but couldn't catch the front and I couldn't hold with them when they dug again.

At that stage I didn't know what happened in the front group. (Hans, Gav, Matt P, Staffy, Brum Matt, Nick McK and I don't know who) But the next time I saw them Matt and Staffy were off like a train with Hans and Adrian chasing a way back, the next thing I saw was Gav rolling round. That put me as our 4th finisher which made life a bit complex as I couldn't make the line in front so had dropped back to help our girls and protect them in the race for second behind a strong Alex Geen (who was still in the second line)

As I hung with the girls I saw Matt P sat at the side with wheels off trying to sort something which I knew would keep him off the top step and that's the last of the front runners.

The last event (and most damaging) was a tag in my line when Sharon T (possible girls podium) stacked near the water station. Rick managed to get round her but Fede couldn't and went down on top, that meant Tanya and Sol were fighting it out for second.

With the short (sub 4 minute lap) counting off laps became complex and no real time spread sheet meant we couldn't find out which made life for those off the front lines entertaining, my line sprinted at least twice before we finished, and those after about 1:40 lost the mats all together.

All in all a fast UK race, I'll be very interested in the cleaned up timing file when it arrives. Apart from the fact it's so far north it's a very nice race, please Mr London 2012, can we have a circuit like that? Rather than a logo that looks like Lisa Simpson doing something I can say in an open forum.

Life in the second line after the split was, in essence, very very silly: nobody wanted to do any work at all (well, actually, don't tell the others, but I'd have been quite happy to up the pace a bit if I'd thought anyone else would take a pull too.  Prisoner's Dilemma, anyone?)  Fred & me from LSST, and enough of each of the other teams that the team trophy would have been decided by who came in when in the second line.  But in the meantime none of us were doing any work at all: the occasional attack when someone got really really bored of skating standing up, but it never lasted more than about 500m.  So we went around very casually for most of the rest of the race

Matt & Staffy lapped us at some point (I always forget to look at the lap board), then Hans came past when we had two laps left (start of his last lap).  So off we went to stretch our legs a bit and follow him: unfortunately I don't know what happened much after that, cos in a bit of a kerfuffle involving a clipped skate and dropping my water bottle (don't know the exact order of events) I ended up making my customary obeisance to the tarmac gods shortly thereafter.  Gnngh.

Over to Fred ...

It was Glenn that went over Sharon. Fede had crashed out with cramp a couple of laps earlier.
