Registered. Flights are going to be booked today, most likely:
Fri 18 th BA984 LHR 16.10 outbound and
Sun 20th BA985 16.40 inbound.
So on the same flight as you  Pamela on the way back.

Am thinking of booking a 6 or 8 bed dorm at 3 Pigs. Anyone up for dorm fun?

Sounds like BIG fun - Count me in!
(Never done anything like that before!) Wink

Get your three pigs bookings in early because the dates in question are public hols/special event in Germany so not only have the rates been hiked but they are likely to be going fast (all ETAP/IBIS etc are already full)
Do you knnow what special event??  On the website they've got it down as ascension day and pentecost on the 18th/19th Sept. - but surely that's at the end of May, not September? ( 40 and 50 days after Easter, or do German's do it differently? ).
They've also tried charging me the hiked rate for Thursday 17th...

I've emailed them to try to clarify...

For a double room it makes it near enough twice the cost of the hostel that Howard is staying in  Shocked
That one looks "nicer", but is a bit out of the way.

I'm definitely up to sharing!
It will be my first time there, so the overall experience take precedence on the performance Wink

So how does it work?
Is somebody booking for everybody? (Sol, you were talking about a big room to share...)
Is payment due in advance or when leaving?

So far, it seems that the trend is to get there on Friday, flying back on Sunday, right?

Sorry to be so annoying, but I guess you know how it feels the first time...

Dear Barrie,

between the 18th and the 20th of september we have special rates because of the Berlin Marathon.

Best regards

Jo

Three Little Pigs Hostel
Isn't the marathon intake mostly us though?  Or do lots of runners use it and keep themselves to themselevs?

I can see me staying at http://www.aurora-hostel.com/ with Howard et al, it's going to be almost half the price for a double room Sad

Agreed, its cheaper, but half the price??

I was intrigued and thought I might join you but cost for my double would be €147 compared to €204. So yes a saving but not half, anbd I think for anyone going into shared dorms, its actually cheaper to stay at 3Pigs. I think I will just bite the bullet. Oh and one other thing...

.... its bloody miles away!!!

Haha, yeah the distance is keeping me thinking.

I've got 66€ per night from them for the room, compared to 55€ pppn at 3 little pigs.

3* 66 = 198
3*2*55 = 330

So yeah, my "double" was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to feeling like they're penalising us for being "loyal"...  baring in mind their normal price of 33€ works out the same as Aurora's, and I've looked around and no other hostel or hotel seems to bump their prices at this time.

I've found a hotel I might go for that might be a good compromise, but only one room left Sad

Andy in particular might like this, but hopefully ditto for the dorm(s) too.

( though they're still trying to charge me the marathon surcharge for the Thursday night which I think should be the normal rate... they're gonna love me by the time I'm done!! )

( They initially responded to my 2nd mail which was chasing them up for not responding to my 1st mail.  The 1st mail did mention the london skaters customary visit - but I doubt that'd have made a difference anyway until I haggled! ).

Hello Barrie,

Thanks for your E-mail. First of all I would like to apologize and state that the person who answered your inquiry wasn’t aware of the fact that you are part of the London Skaters, thus not knowing that you’ve accounted for a considerable number of repeat visits. We highly appreciate your trust in our hostel and would be glad if we could welcome you for the period in question and many more to come. The actual price during the Marathon is 55 € as my colleague stated. The 33 € you mentioned correspond to one of the nights that did not fall in the “marathon period” last year i.e. if you take a look at the rates for the actual marathon days you’ll see that the prices exceed 33 €. However, the price of 55 € does not apply to you. We can offer you the room for 44 €, which is still cheaper than last year.

Hopefully this information helps clear the situation. We would be delighted if the offer meets your expectations and are looking forward to welcoming you soon.

Kind regards

Three Little Pigs
