Also, I bought the Cheetah's pre-2010 which still had the Super Mold Technology, whereas current versions do not (but are still very heat moldable).

Mine (which were originally bought this year)still appear to have this Super Mold Technology thing. Maybe they were old stock.
As for fitting, my feet are fairly wide, certainly more Salomon than K2, and they seem fine in that respect. |

Can I just remind all new Bont owners that all of the frames bolts are not pre-thread locked so have a tendency to loosen when you are out and about.
Get yourselves some thread lock to ease the pain. |

My Z's are still on order, had some communication problems!
There is a guy on the streetskates that has a pair however, and he loves them. Said they fitted amazingly well, stock size. |

Zs arrived. Very pretty.
Tight as a monkey's ass however, especially on the right, which I got half a size smaller based on tracing.
And that's the rub, literally. The inside carbon shell is causing me a lot of pain and heat-moulding doesn't seem to be improving it as of yet after 4 or 5 attempts.
Perhaps I'm doing it wrong, or is it normal to be hobbling in agony at first?
Any help appreciated! |

Does the carbon fibre mould at all, or is it just the leather? I've a feeling the carbon fibre sits tight? If so, my feet are screwed as it's the inside rub of the upper base that is killing me- the 2nd ankle zone.
Glue was dribbling a bit at 70 degrees... could try a bit hotter- though warranty says void above 70- but you may be right- the paperwork looks old. |

I believe it's the resin in the carbon fibre that is heat mouldable ( sounds like fairly normal thermoplastic behaviour to me, but maybe it is as fancy as they make out ).
They used to have a more wordy FAQ on heat moulding, but it seems to have been replaced by this :-

I've alleviated the second ankle zone on my boots, and for a few others. No idea about the Z boot materials, but happy to give it a go. There was no way that foot tracing was gonna solve that problem.
Realistically, my only free evening is wednesday night...at a push, thurs, but I want to spend that meticulously packing for berlin |

Yes the carbon does mould, I've had the carbon round my ankle quite soft on my old Vaypors.
The paperwork is old and now wrong, this has been brought up on other forums 85c for 20mins is the new. |

I've just asked Bont if they'll replace the right boot with a half size up as my toes are wedged... wonder if they will? They haven't a mark on them.
If not, I will buy a replacement boot if they will sell a single boot- anyone know if they do that? |

Right my skates are much better now after some heat gunning and Ed's help (Thank you!), which has fixed the rubbing I had in the 2nd ankle area.
Only remaining problem is I'm struggling to get big outside edges as the carbon bites my inside ankles on both skates.
Ed P. thinks moulding them in tighter is the answer - to make them more flush. My natural instinct is to push them out, but that may make them too 'baggy' perhaps?
Any thoughts or experience greatly appreciated! |
