Hockey skates? Why not put blades on speed skates, do you still have your Millers, they should be able to take a blade being 165mm.
I'm thinking that bent short track blades may not be the best set up for outdoor I'll admit, but I'm sure we could find something that would work.
Thread jack about different sorts of ice speedskating...
Is there someone out there who could tell me the difference between.
1. "Natural" ice
2. Longtrack non "clap"
3. Longtrack "clap"
4. Short track (With blades more centered than they are for ST)
Is there much interchangeability between the different setups? I'm assuming that the boots get softer as you approach a more natural set up and most iceblades are still 165mm spacing. I know a boot good for 4 will be too stiff and perhaps tall for 1-3. I'm also sure the hangers (distance between blade and ice) is lower for 1-3, any idea how much. |

"Clap" means the rear of the skate is not fixed, so it can move in the vertical plane at least - hence the 'clap' sound as it engages when you apply weight/power.
"Non-clap" is a fixed blade
Longtrack skates have a much longer and flatter blade than short track.
"Natural" skates probably have a bit more ankle support than pure longtrack skates.
With thousands of participants and unprepared ice (even if its not as rough as real natural ice), then you will probably be much better off with any sort of long track skate, as its much easier to ride through the rough bits when your blades are nice and long.
I have used the clip-on blades shown here http://www.nordicskater.com/icepkg.html, and they are great (and very fast) on natural ice - if you have a pair of cross-country ski skating boots handy! |

| Still got my Simmons but I definately can't wear them for 11 hours. Even if my feet didn't freeze in them they put too much pressure on where they gave me a ganglion and it comes right back. I have't tried them for a while though |

In that case I'd suggest a strong team to take the other 10.5 hours. |

AJ, I would have loved to have done this (particularly as I had intended going back to ice training this winter) but I'm afraid I am strictly off all skates (and bikes!) for 2/3 months.
I might consider coming over to watch if a few people go |
