Hi Guy's - I am a member of the 'Living Streets' campaign, and I think we should support this if possible with a good turnout. I have enquired specifically, and the organisers are really keen that skaters join in. Please read on:

The London Living Streets campaign group invites pedestrians, cyclists and skaters to gather on Wednesday 12 October at 6pm at the south end of Blackfriars bridge (on the wide footway on the west side, outside 'Doggetts Coat and Badge' pub, SE1 9UD), and then proceeding slowly to the north end, doing a U-turn at the island there and going slowly back to the south end.

Blackfriars Bridge -- Why it is an Issue

You may know that Transport for London proposes to reconfigure the junction at the north end of Blackfriars Bridge to cater for the expected large numbers of extra people using the new Blackfriars railway station there. TfL also propose that the speed limit on Blackfriars Bridge should revert from 20 mph to 30 mph.

The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) has been campaigning vigorously for a junction design more friendly to cyclists and pedestrians; with a more sympathetic public realm; and for retention of 20 mph on the bridge.

The TfL design gives pride of place to movement of motor vehicles. LCC’s concept is for a much more environmentally friendly design, which would include better pedestrian crossings and a large open space on the Unilever House side of the junction. These features would match Living Streets’ aspirations.

Living Streets’ London Action Group have reviewed the TfL proposals and concluded that we should encourage Living Streets London campaigners to support LCC’s campaign for a better junction design and for 20 mph.
We can do this by joining in to demonstrate to TfL and others that users of sustainable modes of transport share objections to the TfL proposals!

Well done Alastair!  I will most likely be there, but on my bike, and I hope most of the club will be able to make it too.

cheers Mike, I'll definitely be there on my skates, and afterwards have a drink with the Wandsworth Living Streets organiser, then (maybe) on to do the 'NTWNS' at Trafalgar Square. I've posted the same msg on Serp Rd forum, so may get some street skaters coming along!
