I'm warm too now but Quentin has nicked all the hot water so have to wait another 45mins for my bath. Not sure how he managed that at the tanks holds two baths worth. I shall eat instead while being rather stinky.
Interesting route description but nice people. Well worth it. |

Fantastic, so glad I went for it. Apologies I was lagging behind a little on the last few hills, but I have to say I was well pleased with myself after my lay off (looks like I have my work cut out to catch you other spped kings, obviously all had something rub off on you from Olympics ) and well done Ed!, brilliant performance for your first ride
Thought I had warmed up on the train and at Euston, but as soon as I hit the rain on the last leg home I got very cold very quickly, so as I said, a very hot bath was urgently needed.
Would like to catch up with Adam and the others again, very nice guys and a great ride. |

Must remember to raise my saddle before I ride that bike next. My kneecaps were giving me gyp from about 20 miles on.
Yeah, seconded. It was fun. |

Really enjoyed that though I wish I could climb at something above 5mph.
Stayed lovely and warm all day even if it did hit 2℃ at one point.
Well impressed that Ed rode over 7 times further than he had rode before. |

My Stats...
| Quote: |
Total Dist 87.84km
Av Speed 18.64km (includes stops)
Max Speed For some reason this didn't record (obviously too fast!)
Duration 4h 40m (includes Home-Euston leg)
HR >175 01:38
HR >156<175 01:30
HR <156 01:32
Interestingly, 95% of the >175 HR came in the first very hilly section of the ride (first 30km) from then on I was always in Zone 2. I guess confirming that aerobically I am fine but very weak in the (leg) power at the minute |

Apologies for lagging behind a lot, all the way round. Cheers for your patience - oh to remember what it feels like a gumbie again! Admittedly, after the first 20mins, I was wondering if I made the right decision or not - the longest distance I've covered in a bike in one go was a ride back from Andy's to mine (4.5 miles!). Perhaps I should have mentioned that before hand.
I would definitely like to do another ride again (despite appearing utterly defeated after it), but hopefully with more similar speed folk to keep me company, and let you lot get a proper workout...Andy, I have no doubt you'd be up with the others when you get fit again.
My knees are a bit achey and clicky this morning and after Dan's post about knees, it got me thinking about my saddle. As a rule of thumb, how high should the saddle be? I remember reading something like where your belly button is when standing, which should equate to nearly a straightened leg when the pedal goes to the lowest point when pedalling whilst sitting on the saddle. |

That's freaking fantastical, Ed!!!!! There is some difference in fitness between skating and cycling, as you're discovering.
A rough approximation is that sitting on the saddle, if you put the ball of your foot on the pedal, your leg should be slightly bent. If you put the heel of your foot on the pedal, your leg should be straight. That's only a start though.
Have you got clipless pedals yet? There's a whole new world of goodness to be discovered there. |

| p.s. small adjustments are the right way to go - even 5mm can be too much. If you've raised the saddle too much, your hips will rock. |

Cheers for the info Mike...looks like i have a bit of tweaking to do, as it sounds like it's at the right height, by knees are suggesting otherwise!

I've got "hybrid" pedals as wasn't sure if I wanted to do the whole clippy shoe thing. Looks like it'll be a good idea, but one step at a time |

| Sometimes it's hard to tell - your knees could simply be protesting because you've used them so much more than before. |
