This sort of thing deviates from my normal goals but as a few of you know, I have decided to go on a bike ride this summer in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Myself, and four of my cycling friends (plus two support drivers) have decided to cycle from Andorra back to Britain. We have given ourselves 16 days to do about 1,400 miles (90 miles/day). The route actually goes through eight different countries and through the Pyrenees and Alps on the way, and we go over some big climbs too.
We organised it all ourselves including the route, accommodation and corporate sponsorship.
We start in Andorra 4th July and we are finishing near Buckingham Palace on 19th July (so if you're in the area - come celebrate!).
I think there is going to be a website and blog up soon so I'll keep you all posted on details.
Needless to say, we decided upon the charity as a result of it affecting friends and families of the cyclists including one of our support drivers who has now recovered from cancer, ultimately as a result of research in that field. And we have chosen to exploit our own interests in cycling to raise money for the cause.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated via our just giving site here:
http://www.justgiving.com/atob2009
...or just see me at a training session!
All proceeds to Cancer Research UK
Thanks

Thanks Guys!!!
Peter, here is our route for day 16. Doesn't include Basingstoke I'm afraid, it is more or less straight to Buckingham Palace (Still about 80 miles though)

Also, if anyones interested here is the route of our 6th Day as an example. It is in the Alps and we spend half of the day across the Italian border. It starts in a village where I went skiing once (Serre Chevalier) which is never a good sign!!! Climbs up to 2000m and a fun little 600m descent into the finish at Lanslebourg. About 65 miles I think.

I'm sure that te French are not fully applying this rule, very much like much of their legislation. But just in case it seems you may need a hi viz vest.
This is what I got from the CTC in a regular mail they send out:

| If you are heading to France this summer you’ll need to pack a hi-viz jacket. Cyclists are now required to wear them at night or in poor visibility when cycling outside built-up areas. More information can be found in English on this website. Please note this rule does not apply in other parts of Europe. However, if you are cycling in Spain you’ll need to know the rules about wearing a helmet. |

| Thanks for the heads up Peter. I doubt they will bother to enforce it but we'll chuck a few jackets in the van just incase. |

I believe French motorists have had to have (at least) one hi-viz jacket in each car/vehicle for (maybe) 2 years now. When my mum told me about that new rule I was totally shocked. |

Hi everyone, have you been following Matt's cycling progress around France, www.atob2009.com
Have a look at the blog and pics on flickr (LSST cycle top in the Alps).
He arrives back in London (Buckingham Palace) Sunday 19th evening, not sure of time yet, but they'll be cycling from Dover ferry. |
