A2A 10K - 10:00 a.m., Sunday, October 7, 2007 / Piedmont Park, Atlanta
by Scott Nilsson
Athens-to-Atlanta, The World's Greatest Roadskate, adds a 10K (6.2-mile)
skating event within Piedmont Park to their other distances this October. With a starting time at 10 a.m., Sunday, October 7th, the 10K winners should complete this exciting event in approximately twenty minutes. With participants ranging from world-class speed skaters (internationally-ranked Greg Gorman is set to compete) to local families and children, the new 10K will offer exciting skating and viewing for participants and spectators alike.
The A2A 10K is the newest event in a 25 year tradition of Atlanta's
hosting the world's most famous road skating events. With distances of
10K, 38-miles, 52.4-miles (double marathon) and 87-miles,
Athens-to-Atlanta - through the Georgia International Road Skating
Association - offers exciting and challenging distances for all levels
of road skaters.
As the A2A 10K skaters stretch at their starting line, two groups of
skaters who departed Athens, Georgia, at 7:30 AM - before dawn - will be
ascending the seven-mile uphill climb into Dacula, Georgia, nearly 50
course-miles from Piedmont Park. 38-mile skaters will battle to their
Dacula finish line as the 87-mile ultra-marathon skaters grab water
bottles and continue towards infamous Silver Hill - the forty
mile-per-hour one mile downhill - and their finish line in Atlanta.
Shortly after completion of the Award Ceremonies for the new 10K, the
world's fastest ultra-distance road skaters will stream into Piedmont
Park, aimed at winning the 4+ hour, 87-mile event that started in
Athens, Georgia.
With a new 10K for families, short and long track competitors, and rink
skaters, Athens-to-Atlanta adds a new event everyone can skate and
enjoy. $30 early-registration for the new 10K is available online;
registration at the event will be $35. See the website for all
registration distances: www.a2a.net
(Please note the start time for the 10K was previously published as 9
a.m. but has been rescheduled to 10 a.m. to make it as family friendly
as possible.)
-----------
In addition for the 10K we will offer a $100 cap for families (related
and in the same household) who enter the 10K. This provides a savings
for four or more family members who preregister or three or more who
register on site. Please contact webmaster@a2a.net for this deal, we
are unable to offer it through active.com. |
