Well, Merten and I had a nice racing today in a small town near Hannover.
Merten did a half marathon and a team-trial and I went there only for the 8k women team-trial.
First thing in the morning: rain. I was not really motivated to go out but after a nice breakfast we went anyway. The race started at 6 p.m. so we had enough time and did not need to get up too early .
The first race was the half marathon where I cheered at Merten, he did really good (I think he will post something later). Then my team from Hamburg arrived and we started preparing for our race.
When we started the road was fortunately completely dry. My team was really fast (Claudia, who some of you might know from Sardinia and Jenny were leading most of the time). On the track there were some bad surfaces and train crossings.
Actually there is not too much to report as the 8k were so fast over
We finished as a pack in 17 min and about 17 sec and got the third place. First time for me to stand on the podium (better I get not used to that).
Nevertheless, lessons learned:
- practise turns ('cause there I always lost the other girls...)
- better warm-up
Maybe Merten will post some pics later on... |

Hmm hmm... well yeah, given that I had severe hayfever all week I can be happy I think.
I half-heartedly started to skate the half-marathon which was a regional outdoor championship, and was licensed only, so no rec skaters to be seen. As I had no idea if I could breathe properly I just hung at the back for the start and did not shove for a good position.
The race went pretty smooth and better than I expected. After 1k I felt breathing was okay, so attacked a bit more and overtook loads of people. The race got wet and slippery half-way in, when drizzle started to come down, so no more attacking then. Finished someway in the middle, 70th position (18th in age cat), 42 minutes something.
After that race there was the 8k time trial which I started with the three super-fast Bremen guys, as a test for me and to be backup in case somebody stacked (third to cross the line counted). I managed to protect my dignity and left the start area in a pack with them and then kept up for about another 1k. I blew when the third closed a gap which had opened before him. So I did the other 7k on my own as single time trial, finished in 16 minutes, so same average than the half marathon which cheers me up a bit. This was a good mental trial for Le Mans (push yourself to max without a goal in front of you).
News on lessons learned:
+ I'm happy that I can start as fast as our other guys
+ Warmup felt good this time.
- I need to position myself earlier and better at the start if I want to compete.
- More training with our fastest skaters would be good for me.
Well done to Michi for making her first podium and showing off LSST colors once more (no team suits yet) |
