What I am looking for now if anyone can help is the
doppel-starter results to see how Roger got on compared to the others. I don't know if there was a prize for that but i'd have though he might be in the "running" |
Me too! I did find a list of the best 25 http://morgenpost.berlin1.de/content/2005/09/26/beilage/782052.html
Here's the first three:
Platz Name Inliner Läufer Inliner-Zeit Läufer-Zeit Gesamtzeit
Die besten 25 Männer
1 Niebisch, Dirk T4497 30066 01:09:52 03:12:46 05:38:11
2 Hupe, Dirk T1017 2843 01:01:30 03:31:09 05:39:10
3 Bertsch, Stefan T3831 29285 01:13:38 03:09:31 05:42:46
The last column is the weighted total - the weighting is roughly 2*skate + 1*run.
The second guy didn't hold back on the skate!
My times by comparison were 1:19:33, 4:22:04, 7:07. There were about 8 people on the Frankfurt TNS forum who did the double and my result is right in the middle.
Extrapolating from the published results I would guess I came between 40 and 50 overall. I read somewhere that there were 184 double entries, but without any published results its impossible to know how many started. |

Berlin was my first, but definitely not last, marathon! Romped (for me!) in at 1hr44 but hoping to make some serious inroads into that for next year.
Fantastic experience and definitely want to find out more about joining up, training sessions and 2006 events calendar.
Also my current blades will have to go and would appreciate any suggestions on what to consider. Am a regular WNS and FNS and would ideally like something that would comfortabl do both if possible, or am I better sticking with one set for social and one for serious?
Suggestions gratefully appreciated!

Hi Andrew, welcome, and definitely sign up! That's an astonishingly good first marathon time, well done.
I skate almost exclusively on my Bont speedskates, so you can, but equally you don't have to if you don't want to. |

I found this really interesting!... (enough to even make a pretty graph of it!)
Check out the age distribution of the people in the marathon, well specifically the guys. Amazing that the number of 35-45 year olds is actually double that of 20-35! Even though that's a bigger age range. hmmm - interesting point to be researched about marketing for LIM maybe?

I'm not a statistician or demograhic expert, but over the longer term (10-20 years), I guess that the sport may go into decline... |

| Well no not necessarily... inline and marathons have only been around for less than a decade, so it's not like that base has moved up from the 20-30 age band. I reckon most of them have started at that age, as will continue to be the trend in the future. |

Amazing that I have any perspective today. My friend from cape town is here and we were out drinking until 3:30. I think I sobered up about 2 hours ago.

Well to state the obvious, you need to work on your running to climb the table as you aren't going to make it up in the skating. You were the slowest runner in the top 60, which shows how good your skating is. Lose an hour off the running and you'ld be around the top 10.
BTW only 8 people with the same birth year or earlier beat you and 30 behind you which means you beat 63 people younger than you. Not sure what that means exactly but it sounds like you did really well. I think you did really well to even think of doing it let alone complete so to finish up there is amazing.
Incidentally the guy who came second here was in the front paceline of the skate finishing a few seconds behind the winner and he is my age. Now I feel really unfit. |
