I'm glad I've had my first proper wet track race, it wasn't quite as bad as I'd feared but I think something still held me back so not the best race meet I've had in a while but still good fun.
I'll have to leave detailed reports to those that come later, but I think we did well with a good smattering of podiums, a brum home race was always going to put a squeeze on the silverware for us. The tight sometimes gladitorial nature of the circuit (which gives it its charm I think) also did for Alan and Hans who kept Natasha busy.
Glad to say there was more grip than I expected despite a rather limited choice of wheels but I'm going to have to work very hard (or certainly much harder than yesterday) to break up the South Woodham triumvitrate at the front of my Cat.
Cat 1 was a bit more of "as you were" with Matt Price's and Vinny's return to the track. Riz stepped up neatly to fill the absent Kimmo's place as blue front runner.
Vish stormed Cat 3 and I rather think we will be seeing him in cat 2 some day soon which could well be fun.
May post more as and when I remember, but thanks all, Brum for another fun race and Sol for remembering the Gazebo, the most popular (or populus) item on the track. |

What a great day (again) I am seriously getting more and more into these club races than the trips overseas to marathons.
A BIG BIG thank you to the many members and supporters who came along I know pretty well everyone had a great day out.

Well done guys.
Sorry to hear that it was wet for you, and that some people went down. Hope nothing serious. |

I agree Andy. Notwithstanding the rain, it was an awesome day out. Special thanks to the Birmingham club for hosting such a great day. I must say, I’m a little envious of their facilities though; the track is brilliant.
It was also fantastic to see so many LSST skaters and helpers out there and to see everybody improving as well. I have a feeling that increased participation in track skating is a huge opportunity for the club, because it gives people an opportunity to compete without having to travel overseas (it also adds another dimension to speedskating; and from personal perspective a real motivation to improve my skating skills rather than just skating fitness).
Perhaps if LSST does get an opportunity to host another club meet this year we could have a couple of separate handicapped rat races for adults. If we advertise it right that could well lead to a lot more LFNS/WNS skaters attending (which may result in being their first steps to competing regularly and joining the club). I appreciate that it’s probably something you have already thought about and admittedly it’s probably another topic, but one well worth mentioning nonetheless
