Well, we thought that some girl from Birmingham was the first lady in as she finished ahead of Sol. Maybe she only did two laps??

The official results show that Sol was the first lady in, followed by me, followed by Beatrice.

Those results really look quite strange. Did you have a judge or somebody officiating for the winners who can help solve this?
What timing system was used - seems that one is not really compatible to skaters? |

| According to pictures & viedos I saw, it looks like a smaller version of the system used at LIM.... Am I right ? |

| Race Ahead (the same guys who do our timing for LIM), were managing it. It was the same Champion Chip system as for LIM. |

Well done to the ladies and thanks to Gav (and others) who helped set up the event.
Looking at the time, I tried to reconstruct a proper end result. From the look of it, Dan, did you finish ahead of Vinnie? That is impressive.
I found the course interesting and enjoyed my Race. I was fitness limited as I ran out of breath and puff really early on. (must do a bit more mileage fto prepare for the 111)
I'm a bit ambivalous about the race. I think it is a good one for motivated people, but might be putting off for those who are not as keen as us on fitness/speed skating. I guess if the event runs again next year, the number of people returning will give us a good indication of the track appeal.
As a small note, Sol should have finished just in front of me if she hadn't stopped to check her frame (wheel?) on the second lap. |

Thank you for organising this lovely event !
I really hope it will carry on, and maybe with a nice weather
Even if it was a terrible race for me I really enjoyed it as it was my first long distance race in the UK ! it was really nice to stand on the line with all this faces I know, somehow it was a very friendly race.
Thank you to Duracell and Hans for supporting me during the race, when I was dying, I was in a bad shape on saturday and skipped the warm up as I wasn't feeling good. I paid for it at the beginning of the race as my muscles weren't too happy, but even afterward I had no fitness to skate.
but still it was a nice race and it will be great to have such a nice race every year.
It's only a half marathon so everybody can do it, on the dry it would have been very nice and it's only three laps so not too boring. I really liked the course and the countryside was nice.
Thanks again to Rick and Gav (and the organisators) for this event !

| I think Dan would have finished about 30 seconds ahead of my time, thanks to my little hazed detour from the finishing straight, so behind Vinnie, but impressively close all the same. |

| Just to add my thanks to Rick and Gav for putting such a lot of effort into organising this - such a high profile event can only do our sport good! Well done also to Gav for an impressive win over Vinnie! Also to the 1 - 2 - 3 LSST girls! I really enjoyed the race despite the cold and damp conditions. The downhills on narrow paths gave a sense of excitment and an impression of speed, and three laps meant you could put into practice what you learned the previous round, so I made faster times each lap. The slippery long uphill section was the worst part, breaking up all the pace lines.... I hope the event runs next year with more people. Well done to all! |

I didn't had too much joy on the day and only completed one lap. The course is probably nice to skate on a dry day but I found it really hard in those conditions. Eventually I went down on the big sweeping downhill, I paid for wearing no pads (totally unusual for me as I badly hurt myself in the past - still can't find those pads, grrr). Anyway after that, I had a leisurely skate around to complete my one lap. Bring on next year and a nicer weather if poss. I did appreciate the sms from the organisers y'day morning though.
Thanks to those involved in making this possible.
Is there gonna be any footage to be seen on tv some time? |
