I'd like to thank all who organised the event. I'm keen to support the London skate scene.

Is it just me or are people under estimating the problem with this section? It was really bad I'm guessing about 50% of us were unable to skate up this section. It was dangerous because is was steep, rough, slippery and wet. Of course, when it's dry, it would be much better. And if skaters don't feel safe, they should stop.
Shouldn't this be addressed if we're going to arrange to skate here again?
Or is it part of the challenge?
The short section of road could be re-surfaced (cost about £3k).
The road could have been cleaned by a jet cleaner prior to race to remove slippery deposits and mud. (cost approx £200 for a half day)
It was great to see so many of us make it out to Oxford and I'm really pleased to have finished my first 'event'. |

As it was an uphill then it wasn't remotely dangerous as nobody was able to travel faster than walking pace it would have been less severe than a slip on some oil when walking. Result you get dirty. Had it been a downhill then it would have been dangerous but then marshals would have been flagging you in that direction instead. If you choose to ignore their warnings then that is up to you but they were most definately warning people in the potential danger areas.
I skated the section on Friday evening and it was clean. In fact I skated the whole route. The wind and rain dumped it all on there and there was nothing that could be done at that stage. There may have been some more left on there by the estate vehicles or those of the organisers.
In the evening meeting on Friday the sweeping of the course was discussed and was abandoned until Saturday morning (they were there from 5am) because of the debris being blown across making sweeping pointless. |

It wasn't the part that was bothering me: exactly how much damage can you do to yourself falling at walking pace?
(No, I'm not really asking someone to answer that, just pointing out that the risks are comparable with walking)
The wet downhill with the left-hand bend and catle grid at the bottom was IMO far more "challenging" - although after seeing on the first lap that the road was dry on the turn itself I was much happier about subsequent laps. |

Yes, the uphills were slippery, but bearing in mind you could only move at just over walking pace I wasn't too bothered.
But like Dan says..

There were a few incidents there. I saw a Birmingham wheels lady have a nasty fall on that corner and my Dad (Chris) decided to take a detour onto the grass when one of the officials yelled out "Cattle grid" as he was coming around the corner.
Although there were some problems I thought that the course was very nice apart from the wetness, that was beyond the organisers control, and I thought it had potential. Perhaps a resurface of some points would be good because I can imagine that there may have been a few cycling punctures on some of the ruff bumpy bits aswell. |

I assume everyone else has seen this - anyone know if it includes coverage of the skating?

Ah well.
I guess they thought none of the footage they took of us would appeal sufficiently to the mass-market...
I wonder who we should bug for the skating footage? Channel 4? Or did anyone notice what company was actually doing the filming? |
