Because I'm going to Koln, and I'm the next on on the hit list? |

| If you're both in the licensed blocks, you'll be starting at different times in Koeln anyway ... |

| Just looked at the info. Starting at a very civilised time this year. 10:45 for the inlinemarathon. 2 hours later nice. However, this puts a bit of a sprint on to make the 20:00 ferry though. Need to be back at the bag collection point by 13:00 and try to get out of town by 14:00 and eating on the way or we might end up on the 22:00 and getting home a bit late. Also recommend having some snacks ready in the car for when we leave to tide us over until a service area in Belgium. Don't forget your carb:protein ratio. |

So when we sprint for the line it's not to get a better PB but to get us back to the Ferry in time...
I like a bit of motivation. |

My plane lands 10:15 at CGN. I think the first thing I'll be doing is heading to the hostel to confirm my reservation, so might well bump into you there. Failing that we'll co-ordinate by mobile. (Anyone who doesn't have my number, it's in the members forum somewhere or feel free to PM me) |

| Well if you're lucky you'll be at the Hauptbarnhof by 11:00 am. Our hotel's near there or we'll be heading to the Messe to register. But As you say I've got you're number. |

Just checking things while I wait for the guys in the hostel.
We have hooked up with Dan and we are ready, if very tired. |

It didn't rain. Everybody finished. Nobody died. Peter came a cropper near the start, and Rick performed a superman slide near the end, aided by having the hubs on both his front wheels break (the remnants look quite spectacular) and possibly also by a pothole of some kind. Various kinds of skin/flesh loss, but, as I say, nothing that stopped them from continuing - though in Rick's case he had to continue in a most unconventional manner with front wheels hanging off the axles. Tanya had her "best race ever" (her words), hanging with the lead Ladies pack right up until the last km or so. I did what I came to do, though not with any particular aplomb.

Fun race. The others are in Rick's car somewhere, I expect: I'm staying out here another day and flying back tomorrow. |

Brilliant result from Tanya - coming in 15 less than a minute behind the winner.
Excellent skating by Dan and Peter both coming in under 1:23. Peter's mishap with a barrier only slowed him for an instant.
Most dramatic stack of the event award goes to Rick. One of his front wheels disintegrated as he sprinted powerfully for the line causing him to fly through the air Supermanlike but the landing was painful, Rick cheered by the crowds got up and skillfully manoevered his shattered skates across the line.
My race was uneventful, I started well but ran out of steam (note to self: at my age it is not a good idea to have no sleep on the Friday night if skating on Sunday) - but I still beat last years time by 7 minutes - but last year was wet - this year the weather was just about perfect. |

It is still my favourite race despite the crash. It's so far the only marathon I have completed 4 times. The crash cost me about 2½ to 3 minutes and maybe 50 places looking a the times as it was a very slow finish after destroying my line and a few in front in the final 2km. Tactically good from my point of view. In a strangely perverse way, I enjoyed the special attention from the crowd at the end, when they saw my predicament and all the fresh blood from my left knee and elbow. They gave me a fantastic lift and the Red Cross people were really great too.
Very well done to Tanya. Not such a competitive ladies race perhaps but the skaters that were there might start to recognise her now.
Best ever conditions for Cologne will be back next year time and finances permitting. If you want to drive/hostel it, for 4 up on the car it cost us £122 (£30.50 each) for ferry and diesel. Late registration put the entry up to 60€. All other costs were food, drink and a bit of shopping. Very cheap. I am planning on doing Duisberg and Dusseldorf next year the same way and maybe Bonn too.
Daniel didn't bring Duracell's and Glenn's skates to the start so we couldn't bring them home. He is planning to ship them this week after the frames arrive. |

As above, +Ouch, and a well done Tanya (expecther on a Zepto line near you soon.)
A crash barrier caused me to crash, arse. Still, within shouting distance of Dan at the end and a new PB is enough for me. |
