Registration for the Eddy Matzger course is now open on Eddy’s website. Dates for London are July 21-23. Eddy's also running a weeknight course on July 25 and 26 (Tuesday and Wednesday). Coordinating the course from the UK end is LSST team coach, Mike van Erp, so I hope he’ll be along to clarify and expand on the course. I’d been skating 3 months when I took Eddy's workshop in June 2004 and it turned me into the skate junkie I am now (I’ve never been the same since!)  LSST attendance has been high in previous years, as I expect it to be this year.

In previous years, Eddy has skated the streetskate with us on the Friday night, I certainly hope he’ll be skating the LFNS this year. We’ve then gone back to the Victoria pub for a short briefing where we’ve picked up our skate packs and goodies. Instruction started pretty early on Saturday morning, at the beach end of Serpentine Road in Hyde Park, and we’ve moved to the Albert Memorial in the afternoons when Hyde Park gets crowded. On Saturday night we go back to the Vic for a review of our skating (Eddy had videoed during the day). We then return on Sunday for another action-packed day.

What did I enjoy about the course? Eddy has taught thousands of students in countless countries over the years, and he manages to cater for beginners and keen speed skaters during the same session whilst keeping it informative and relevant to their respective levels.

Another plus: Eddy’s enthusiasm: he’s an active racer and tireless ambassador for inline skating and has boundless energy and enthusiasm. If there’s anything he can’t do on skates, I’d like to hear about it (videos of him skating Korea’s Death Arch and an account of climbing the pyramids in Egypt kept me hanging on the edge of my seat). He’s encouraging, patient and a great showman. He makes the double push look like going out for a stroll in the park.

If you’ve had a taster of Mike’s techniques for going faster with less effort through the long slow skates, want to learn the double push techniques or just want to perfect a few areas like crossovers or skating with confidence in a paceline in preparation for Le Mans, then give this course a try.

25th and 26th are down as "London Night Workshops" on the website.

Nats: Thanks Sol, I have edited my post above to include that.
