I'm interested in doing one of these rides and believe the Whitstable run on 22nd October is the next available ride, with registration opening 26th September.
I need to get my bike and bits ready, as it's been out of action for a while. I've recently worked on the brakes, as the quick release cam was jammed (rust) but I've freed it and re-adjusted the brakes. I believe you also need spare tubes and other parts etc. Is the whole checklist @ FNRttC really necessary, or can someone guide me on what is and isn't necessary? Thanks. |

My workplace has blocked that site, so I can't actually read what's on there.
In terms of preparation, I check the brake pads are not sufficiently worn down, everything is in general working order and that there's nothing loose.
If you're not bike-savvy, perhaps get it serviced given that it's been a while since you've last used it.
In terms of what to bring, here's what I brought for the ride to Brighton (when we knew it was going to rain, but didn't realise how much!):

For the Whitstable ride a few weeks back, I had packed my saddle bag pretty much the same way as Brighton, and didn't bring a back pack.
In hindsight for that ride, I would eat more beforehand, and bring a couple more energy bars as was starving before we'd even reached half way.
Definitely come Will - it's great fun! |

The next FNRttc is Southend this Friday 24th Sept - unless of course you are going to Berlin.
Kit list Ed has provided is sound although based on previous rides more emphasis should be placed on making sure your steed is road worthy and puncture proof (as mech issues always cause untimely delays!)
One other thing, based on last nights FNRttc to Harwich, it was bloody freezing so make sure if you do come, you bring plenty of layers as well as hat and gloves |

| Waiting for confirmation. Need to accelerate my preparations, if I'm gonna be ready. |

Think I might come along for this one.
Will, give me a shout if you need a hand with anything bike wise. |

I'll ask Simon to add my name to the list.
I did Friday's ride and it was distinctly marked by the lack of blue jerseys around and I had to cover mine with a wetproof jacket (quite windy, a bit cold at times) . It was quite a small one in the end, about 40 of us maybe, with lots of waiting-regrouping. Felt rather short too despite getting to Southend by 06:30. At least I was home early. |

Does anyone have a spare bike that my friend can borrow for the event? He's a competent rider.
He'd be about a size 55cm. |

| He could borrow my Charge - but if he's any shorter than me he'll struggle, it's a big bike for a medium size. |

Thank you Howard - very kind! He's taller than me, so will hopefully be fine.
I'll get in touch closer to the time to sort out the logistics of it all. |

Hmmm no time for much now, main thing I want to do before Friday night is sort out the adjustment on my gears, as they're not changing smoothly.
Loving my new job, as it's just a minute or two away from the Condor shop on Grays Inn Road
How's everyone feeling about Friday night. I think if it's not wet, it's really going to be very cold. I'm not sure what to wear or if I have all the appropriate clothing. I have plenty of layers, but very few cycle specific ones. Anyone advise me? |

Might get a chance to look at them before the ride on Friday, but might be worth seeing if Condor could take a look seeing as you're so near.
It's definitely going to be a cold one. I'm thinking base layer, LS Jersey, softshell and carry thin showerproof, riding tights and shorts, maybe some winter socks. Winter hat, buff and gloves should round it off nicely. |
