Tomorrow is the Montreal marathon at the Gilles Villeuneuve F1 circuit in Parc Jean Drapeau.
I am all signed up and currently reading through Rick's lecture one last time and sorting out my gear.
Will let you all know how it goes, unlikly to be anything spectacular but I will be representing the LSST and quite excited! |

Cool to get yourself out there. Spent 6 months in the City working htere, Nearly took a job there full time back in 2001. They have a 24 hour race on that circuit just like Le Mans.
There used to be a marathon in the Festival de la Sante but it got canned for being a bit dangerous or something.
Ladies unassisted marathon record was set on the circuit 2 years ago I think.
Good luck, hope you get a good line. |

Sadly managed to screw that one up quite nicely! Skated fast off the start and managed to get into a nice line with some quick skaters, but unsurprisingly had trouble keeping up (they got around 1:10). Then had trouble getting into a good line and found myself at the back of a few, predictably falling off. After a couple of laps of chasing lines I was spent and ended up doing a slow half marathon myself. Guess I have some work to do before the next one now!

Yep got to get off those fast ones before you blow up or you won't recover in time to catch a slower one of the right pace for you. However, on a multi lap race you can usually wait until you get lapped and then hop aboard. It's all good learning experience though. However, going off too fast and then staying on a tougher line than we should for too long is one mistake some of us make time after time. Never mind, you are in good company.
Hope you enjoyed yourself. |

| A first marathon by yourself is going to be a learning exercise, still at least you didn't make a sacrafice to the tarmac gods, that's a tradition we can do without. |
