Hopefully I can go next year now.
Is that surface much better now than for the past editions?
And... when is Goodwood not windy, eh?
Well done everyone. Bring on LIM now! |

Got some interesting lap times:
00:07:48
Lap 1, trying to catch up 2nd paceline (damn that stack that lead to me being separated from Tanya et al!), lap 2, 3 and 4 solo too. Lap 5 shows the difference a paceline makes and lap 6 shows me dying.
Great picnic afrewards too, shame I didn't feel like eating any of your lovely food Natasha |
sorry for above stack but notice it's your best time
i was sorry to see you on the bank instead of the course |

The pro photographers pics are up on his site.
Some great ones, some fuzzy ones. A lot of you guys must have been moving too fast, strangely none of the ones of me are fuzzy !?

Working out she was stronger than him and waiting for her to chase down Hans...
All my show boating in front of the camera later came to not much, lots of nordic crossovers through the chicane.
Still there are some not bad ones in there, I think I need to drop my tuck a bit, everyone seems lower than me. |

Well, on a positive note, I finished. And I also realised why you lot do the "preparation" thing.
Big thanks to Nats & Xia for being a great paceline until I wimped off it on the 2nd lap (which I regreted about 2 minutes later).
- must learn not to start so fast that I mess up my back
Big thanks to "Karsten" and to Naomi PB for making a paceline with me once we'd all dealt with our starting issues.
Next time:
- don't expect my back / abs to still be strong when I haven't done any workouts for 3 weeks
- get more sleep beforehand (couldn't sleep due to an aching arm, which may be due to carrying the megaphone on Friday - now who's idea was that?)
- try this "warmup" concept you lot go for, and don't forget to stretch before the race
And looking forwards to Junkers, so I don't have to choose between a bruised anklebone (with good technique) and blisters (bad technique).
Nats - the picnic was fabulous, thankyou

I'll tell you what Hans told me at Tatem on Tuesday: sit further back on your skates (may require more knee bend) and round your back a bit more. Definititely works for me.

A proper (or even just a half-assed) warmup definitely helps more than no warmup. I believe the accepted wisdom is not to stretch cold muscles, though |

If I do say so myself we did a great job on the day of collecting everyones chip back after the event. We didn't loose a single chip... we did however loose quite a few velcro straps!
Yes, In hindsight we shouldn't have included straps in race packs that had their own chips and we were so worried on the day about loosing chips that we didn't concentrate so much on the straps. Oh well, a lesson learned for next year!
I am posting here as it was mostly you lot that had their own chips and so had a loose strap you didn't use. If you do still have the velcro strap from the day and you could please drop it in the post and send it back to us we would be very grateful. It should fit in a standard envelope and be light enough for a standard stamp.
Please PM me for the address. Thank you very much. |

Easier to hand them in at the LIM - strap amnesty everyone. We'll then make sure we hand them over to those marvelous Camberley people.
My feedback on the day: fabulous! Not much you could do about the headwind. Goodwood was my first ever marathon, and I retain fond memories of it. The track is extremely smooth (not that I can remember it being bad last year).
- Your volunteers were lovely. Really friendly and helpful, you picked a great bunch. Dan, you kept smiling all through the day and kept your cool, even with 100 people asking you about their lap times.
- I'd change the water stop from open cups to bottles with the tops loostened. Much easier to carry a bottle, and less spillage for both volunteers and skaters.
- I understand some of the rec skaters were startled by some of the LSST pacelines coming through at speed and shouting a warning to keep right - it's a problem we'll face too at the LIM where the track isn't as wide. I apologise on behalf of LSST to anyone we did scare - I remember the same thing happening to me at the LIM my first year, it is scary as a beginner/improver skater, but no-one tells you to expect it beforehand.
- layout changed from last year, what happened to the bike sheds? They gave the place character!
- catering - without a picnic, we would have been pretty stuffed (and I remembered to bring it at the last minute). Catering is a hell of a lot of work (I manage it for the LIM), but it makes a good profit for LSST, even at reasonable prices (contact me for specifics or become a member, you get all the juicy details at the AGM!)
- timing mats and chips worked well - we'll consider for next year now you've been guinea pigs.
- I'm sure you would have got more on the day/London skaters if it hadn't been for the unsettled weather reports. Nothing you could have done to prevent this. The promotion (eg, on the LondonSkate) was great. Next year, you could even have it on the Saturday, to enable the post-event celebrations to carry on without fear of those back-to-work blues
Thanks again for a memorable day! |

Give me the velcro things at LIM and I'll get them back.
I already have Hans' and Kevin's.
There was a catering truck, it was just a bit of a trek. AND they didn't have chips! |

Other side of the circuit, last year we were on the inside, this year we were on the outside.
Goodwood seems to change a bit each year, but then after spend the best part of 30 years having not changed at all they have a bit of catching up to do. |
