Fantastic event; My one (obvious) observation was that the pacelines were very LIM dominated. Is there anything we can do to get some of the other teams to participate? Perhaps if we build it up to a UK series: Goodwood, LIM and one other (Preston/Blenheim)?

I guess you meant LSST dominated. I have been suggesting to people that the British Marathon Championships become a series. With 4 races this year with chip timing we could easily have a points system and it guarantees the success of all the events if people have to turn up to earn points toward the Championships.

layout changed from last year, what happened to the bike sheds? They gave the place character!

Other side of the circuit, last year we were on the inside, this year we were on the outside.

We were told we probably couldn't use the inside of the track (bike sheds) this year because of the aero day the same day.  After going down to do a recce last month we thought that the outside of the track would work better and the trees would give some shade that you can't easily get on the inside of the track.  I hope you all liked the change.

I would be interested in talking officially about this.  Obviously we would have to talk about it early for next year.  Goodwood has clasically been a charity event.  We have made very little and have managed to raise an estimated £2000 for charity which is great.   We will have to discuss amongst ourselves which direction we want to take the Goodwood Roller Marathon.

I hope it wouldn't lose the relaxed feel if it became a british marathon cup event

I dont see why, part of the relax atmosphere comes from the skaters them self. As long as all are included, there is no reason to loose it.

The day when you will have separated start (like 2 years ago) and different treatment for the skaters will be the day you will loose that atmosphere.

If we had a British Inline Cup then it would add about 40 skaters to the event. On a circuit that size you wouldn't see a difference. You would get a bit of FISS interference in terms of having to have lap boards and officials and providing lunches, trophies, etc but with all the extra skaters that would turn up and providing catering too then it could make a lot more money for charity. Impressed you made £2k for that. LIM profits are measured in hundreds and over time there are ways of pooling resources so that each event can save money and make more for whatever purpose. All the three marathons have charity connections. Though LIM profits are mainly ploughed back into the growing of the event and the club.

In the short term. I suspect that LSST might be prepared to shoulder some of the organisation and costs of Goodwood to help you guys out and to act as the FISS interface so long as we don't make a loss. E.g. prize money, trophies, etc. If we can get the extra skaters in then I think it would be a win-win-win-win for the charity, for the Goodwood event, for LSST and for the skaters.

Anyway, lets take this offline as we can discuss it on a wednesday sometime. it's only an idea at the moment but I've been seeding and watering it for a year so people won't be surprised when I bring it up at the FISS AGM this November.

A lot of that was sponsorship money from the racers.  Our profits weren't much at all but we broke even 4 days before the event and most of the door profits are going to the charity too.  We pulled in A LOT of favours this year to get things for free which I'm not sure we can do every year and running the chip timing ourselves saved a fortune even if it did reduce my life span through worry  Smile

I definately like the idea, and definately worth planting the seeds for next year...... tries not to think about next year until this year is over.  We have to collect a lot of sponsorship money yet!  Rolling Eyes

Hi Rick
can't speak for the rest of the Birmingham crew but Goodwood was competing with the European Seniors and was one week before the LIM. One advantage of having it as a FISS event would hopefully be possible to spread the dates. If you could maintain the fun element it could be THE social event of the skating calendar!!
Good luck deciding

Trouble with that is that the date is totally dictated by the track.  Even if it was FISS, I don't know that there'd be enough pull to give it a higher priority with the owners.  Doesn't mean we can't try though.

Lemming - you told us that it was dictated by your birthday.

All sponsorship money has now been collected and we are pleased to announce that Goodwood Roller Marathon has raised £2141.48 for The NCYPE.  Even better, the charity should be able to claim GiftAid on every penny which brings the grand total up to £2741.09 from the event!

A HUGE thank you to everyone that attended or helped us organise the Goodwood Roller Marathon this year.  We look forward to seeing you again next year.

And if you couldn't make it this year, we'll see you all next year too Wink
