You and me both! I joined the paceline at the back and whilst I noticed it was just you two doing it, it took me a while to get to the front to help out because you were going so fast |

Hey Ben, this is something we practice at Tatem, you need to be going at the same speed as the paceline to get on it (without having to accelerate hard); I am guessing you should have come out of your paceline earlier and then started skating faster than your original placeline to get on ours. On the knee pad issue, you may want to try kevlar; I have use them sometimes at Tatem or in some marathons like Engadin, where I feel there is more danger of slipping, They protect your knees without the same issues that you have with knee pads. If you can't pick up a pair on the internet, they should be selling them at Berlin. Happy to bring mine along to a Tatem session when you come next if you want to test them. |

| Kevlar seems the obvious choice, but I've never found anything when I've tried googling it, I've always ended up finding netball pads or something. Do you have any links you could post? Otherwise, also interested to see what you have if you bring them to Tatem. |

Happy to bring mine to Tatem sessions so people can try (haven't got mine today, so will have to be another session). If you would rathter try it before you buy for size, you should be able to pick some up at the Berlin marathon.

Out of stock at BSB?
I found somewhere that had a full set for 90$ ( legs, arms and gloves ), but there were no buy links for the top row of goods, d'oh...
What size are yours Glenn?
IIRC they don't come right down to sock level do they? If not then no good for fending off the dastardly Tatem flies... |

Lol, yeah, I was hiding the whole way round. Thanks to everyone in that group that pulled us around. I got too frisky at the start. I hadn't warmed up (bad time planning) and had only skated once since Le Mans (lazybastarditis). So it's not surprising that I had a couple of major wobbles on the first lap, lost all my confidence and went backwards quickly. In fact I almost stopped after the first lap.
I eventually I found a line and slowly worked my way back up. In the end I was quite pleased. I did the whole thing without stopping (I stopped twice at the London marathon) and eventually felt comfortable in the paceline following Rick (thanks Rick).
I'm not proud of the time I did seeing as I didn't contribute a single turn whilst hiding at the back. But I certainly learnt a lot. Thanks to everyone in my group, really enjoyed it......... and my back has just about recovered now |

First post here! Really well organised event (although I haven't done any other marathons than previous goodwoods to compare it to)
The main thing I didn't like was that there were no pace lines at the speed I wanted to go at. This is probably my fault for getting to the start line after most people so there wasn't enough room to get as near to the front as I would have liked. The longboard in front of me fluffed his start too and I think the combination of the two stopped me getting on the back of the 3rd main group.
I had a small group sort of form around me but it broke up about 3/4 down the first straight so I was on my own for most of the time.
Best part was when that really long speed line came round for their last lap as I was able to jump on the back for the rest of that lap.
Still, I managed my first marathon in a pb of 1hr40 and managed to do the rest of the dual not too much slower.
Planning to try a larger wheel size than 80mm next year if I can get the hang of them by then (not skated anything bigger than that yet) |
