Ouch. ouch. ouch.
This is brought on by 2 reasons....
1) the course designers forgot to include any downhills. It just went up and up.
2) I fell after 2km, hurt my wrist quite a bit and skinned both knees. This looks like its becoming a tradition for my first marathon in the season. Have done this at Hamburg as well
It was a really tough course. Only 15 guys finished sub 1:15, and that was only half the WIC guys! I came 42nd and did it in 1:24...
but hey - character building Looking forward to a flatter hamburg next weekend. |

It must have been pretty rough to be more hilly than Hamburg as that is not exactly flat. |

to be honest - I did not feel mighty at all. I was all over the place - and dying! It was so hard just keeping the pace of the paceline I was with, which wasn't that fast at all.
I am just hoping that some of that was due to the fall, but I also know that a large part of it is the lack of a proper winter season of base work
Was trying to look for the course altitude profile on the website, but is so slow today, obviously everyone checking there results! |

| A great opportunity, you took it, you went for it, you learned something from it. You couldn't prepare properly with a broken leg, but this was probably great training for Hamburg, at least now you won't get pre-marathon jitters. We're rooting for you, and we need you to run our pre-race warm-up in Hamburg. So get carb-loading... |

Well done Gav. I recognised a few names of people not far in front of you; you were definitely mixing it up with some good people. A top 50 finish seems pretty incredible from where I am standing.
The guys ahead of you have clearly peaked too soon, and you will be beating them all in a couple of months time |

Congratulations! Well done, roommate
While you were fighting to keep up the pace of your paceline, I was fighting to keep up with Sebi's instructions (or shall I say: commands) on a concrete skating track in Bolzano... in the pouring rain
Well, sunny skies made up for this on Sunday, so no complaints. Good fun and good skating for 2 days!
Hope your wrists and knees recover quickly-
Good luck for Hamburg and Shine On.!
Jock. |
