| Me either, though I should be able to do an hour here in my local park in Bromley, as well as my low walking session. |

Now that was both damp and very very slippery. Not good at all.
Low walking? See here:
http://www.bont.com/news/featurearticles/landtraining/low.mpg
Careful of your knees, this is high intensity stuff and can easily lead to injury. I started with 5 repeats of 5 seconds each, and am increasing this only a very small amount each week for a long and steady progression. The idea is that you eventually get to large amounts of low walking, two years ago I got to 10 x 1 minute and then turned into a slacker. Benefits are an increase in skating specific strength [1], high tolerance for lactate burn, and it'll help you to increase your knee bend.
[1] Yes, I recall that study someone raised here that said it wasn't at all specific and not much use for skating, but so many of the top skating performers have this as a big part of their training that I'd rather listen to Bill Begg on this one. |

Yeah, that looks really easy to do incorrectly. (In fact even seeing that clip makes me remember how many gym instructors over the years have emphasised to me that the knee should never go past 90 degrees when under load...) Mike, could I please grab a quick demo of that next time we're in the same place? Cheers!
Garan, depending on how hung over I am after NYE, I could be tempted by a 2nd Jan morning skate. Do you have my mobile number? PM me if you don't have it... |

FWIW, this opinion is not universally held. See e.g. http://www.mansized.co.uk/answers/answer.phtml/13
We did a dryland session on the first day at Sardinia last year which included low walking. At the time I was thinking "la la la, this is easy, I must be doing it wrong". The following day ...
It was midweek before I could run up stairs again. |

I'm up for Tuesday, see you guys there!
LOL, you were only out of action for a couple of days Dan? The first time I did it it was more than a week before I recovered. |

People seem to have found the new January 2007 LSS thread okay, despite me forgetting to cross-post here about it until now.
Now linked through, though, in case someone else comes along and finds this thread first.
My intention is to post a new thread each month for the LSSs - feel free to start a new one yourself if I forget... |
