Hello LSST,
My membership forms are in the post... and until then I can't post in the Members Only forum.
Are any training sessions at Richmond Park (for distance / endurance) planned over the two long weekends Easter and Mayday?
Many thanks,
Jon |

Welcome to LSST
We do not have any formal sessions scheduled for Richmond at the moment. We have coach-led sessions on Saturday mornings at an indoor venue in central London and on Sunday mornings at Tatem Park in North London. We await confirmation from our coaches that they are available to lead these sessions on the holiday weekends.
We also have sessions on Tuesday evenings at Tatem Park.
Some members arrange informal sessions at Richmond from time to time, or simply post on this forum that they plan to head there inviting others to join them. Your best bet is to keep an eye on this section of the forum for details of the next time someone is heading in that direction. |

Definitely keep an eye in the Training sessions forum as that's where the majority of sessions are posted.
Do bear in mind that ad-hoc session may only be arranged at short notice (a few days in advance). Richmond Park skating is only just kicking off, so perhap in the coming weeks, you'll see more posts for that.
Welcome to the club! |

@Pamela - thanks for the reply! To be quite honest I am only really interested in endurance skating for the club (20km+) - your call as to whether you reckon the indoor sessions or Tatem Park would hence be any use.
Just to explain a little more, I've skated 3 Berlin marathons (best time 1 hour 26 mins), 3 Berlin half marathons (best time 41 mins) and a few other events outside the UK of marathon distance or more.
@Ed! - thanks for the message. I'll keep an eye on the forum, and for sure count me in if there is going to be something (informal) at Richmond over the next couple of weeks! |

Yes absolutely, they will significantly help your goals, both with technique and with fitness. Personally I'm gutted I can't attend these more often due to my work, as otherwise I'd be at nearly every one. |

Ummm, it isn't really for me to say what training you should do. We all have different goals and aspirations.
That said, the vast majority of us want to improve technique and efficiency. Improved speed and endurance are normally a natural progression if you work on those.
The majority of our active members are biased toward the longer distance events - marathons, Athens to Atlanta, Le Mans, Raps, etc. They have derived significant benefit from the coach-led training we do but it is entirely for you to decide what you personally want to do.
I would recommend you at least try them before making that decision for yourself. |

hi Jon,
if you can skate with others, I would really encourage that. After all, the quickest way to get better is to skate with others that are a little better. Most of our skaters are more focused on marathons (and Le Mans), so you should be in good company re having similiar goals - though appreciate that it's a pain getting to Tatem from Richmond.

Those are impressive times for the marathons - well done. As everyone else on here has pointed out, a lot of us "enjoy" (for want of a better word!) skating marathon distances and longer...however, people inevitably come to the conclusion that it all boils down to technique, technique and technique.
Having good technique will means you can achieve the same results with less effort - efficiency being the key...granted, you can probably better those times by improving your fitness and stamina, but a more effective way would be to improve your technique.
The winter sessions concentrated a lot on technqiue and unfortunatley for newcomers, we are now entering the racing season, where the emphasis on most sessions will be to work on fitness and speed whilst being aware of the things we learned earlier on.
That said, skating with others, as Glenn eluded too, will go some way to improve your skating, not just from working on things like pacelines, but also by being to able to observe and skate with others that do it well. |

I am looking at all those opportunities for training with all those days off and in addition of the Saturday (Indoor) and Sunday (Tatem Session) I was wondering what sort of interest there would be for the followings :
Friday Morning 9am in HP and/or (22/04)
Monday morning 10am Richmond Park (25/04)
Friday would be probably an interval training session, whilst monday would be more of an endurance session with some hill training built in.
If there is interest I'll open a thread |

Monday morning 10am Richmond Park (25/04) - would be good for me.
I'm marshalling the 18 mile LGFNS on Fri which should be a good enough workout on its own! |

hi Fred,
Monday, some of us have a sportive (so will probably be resting Sunday, but will be at indoor at Saturday).
Friday - will definitely be doing something - whether on bike or skates - if on skates personally, I think we could do a better quality session in Regents Park outer loop, though we would have to split in ability groups, with less inter-action between groups - i.e. more similar to a Richmond session.
Tuesday, will try for Tatem.
