no, I'm not looking for bike locks, but for the opposite part, ie some kind of solid metal loop(s) which can be bolted to the floor/wall and the bike can be locked to.
B&Q and the like have loads of things which look right, but are either flimsy (think of the bathroom type/towel rail variety) or not closed loop (bike hanging hoops and the like), and I've pulled a blank so far looking for railing type stuff - anybody with a different suggestion on how/where to find something like this? |

Evans have both wall and floor options:

For my bikes, I have a combination of this and this.
You'll need a good drill and drill bit (can order the latter through the site).
I then bought a big chain to go through the anchor (but not too big otherwise it wont' fit through the hole) and round the bikes. |

'doh, I could have checked bike stores... I was so fixated on DIY solutions I didn't even think there were product specific ones (not cheap, it has to be said, especially the Evans ones...)

| Yes, I have come to the realisation that this cycling malarky isn't as cheap as I thought it would be...though that's mainly of my own doing! |

Portable, and pretty secure I think?
More seriously I was thinking of hoops for mooring boats to and that kind've thing, but that search was much less fun and successful... |

yeah, that mirrors my thinking of generic solutions. |

| Always wondered with these things how you stop would-be thieves from taking the bolt out of the wall then carting the whole lot off? |

It's really, really, really difficult (though not impossible) to take the bolt out - you can have a look at the one I've got next time you're over. |

For outdoor parking I quite like these but they are a bit pricey.

My bikes are kept in a shed at the front of our house anchored to a large concrete block which was pretty cheap and easy to make, I got the largest Gorilla tub I could find, filled it with concrete with a heavy duty chain set into to it. It weighs a ton lol. |

No no no no no no! Two men and a van and you are laughing. unless you fill them with lead, they aren't heavy enough to prevent them from being carried away. |

while Markus has raised the subject, the locks that Aldi sells (don't laugh!) for motorbikes are the d*gs b*ll*cks; good chains and locks which my mate with his 3 footlong bolt croppers made no headway into whatsoever.
And all for less than £15, if I remember right. They're not in stock all year 'round tho', and i don't remember when I got mine. Probably spring?
sole downside: they weigh a ton
upside: perfect for a home-made ground anchor (which is what Markus is looking for, no?)
cheers

@Howard: spot on; these planters are all very well while you pop into a shop but no way for overnight/unattended lockup. |
