Interesting. Pissed it down during the day but dry for the race. Head wind this year which made it more work but I did a 1:30 without trying. Tanya finished in the ladies pack about 6 seconds behind the winner. Ray was about a minute and a half behind me after skating together for 34km. Glenn did about 1:20. Official results not up on the web yet.
We got to Duisburg safely and are now installed in the hotel ready for an early start tomorrow morning. Up in 5 hours. Oh well. Everyone is feeling like they can do another one right now. It is raining here in Duisburg bu the forecast for tomorrow is dry. We are thinking the overnight rain won't clear away for the start but you never know. Fingers are crossed. |

That was easier than expected. Feeling fine and dandy now. 1:37:12 today. Best ever ofr Duisburg. Put some effort in and was quite tired at the end but well worth it. We had to start in the back block because it was the German champs and they wouldn't allow non-germans to race with their licensed skaters. They all went off in age category blocks and then a two minute wait before we could start and go picking them off. Tanya charged up the field with no viable competition she skated with some random bloke most of the way. Markus was there in the M40s. It did dry off and most of the course was good to skate on. A wet road right at the end made things interesting. The race was an extra half a kilometre than normal as it didn't finish in the stadium to allow for a half decent sprint finish....so I did one. A half decent one that is. Killed my line and smiled fo the finish camera.
All in all a great weekend. If it happens like that next year then I recommend we go en masse and book early.

Age categories look wrong and they split it into speed and fitness depending on where you started so these are not exactly spot on.

Great performance by Tanya, in both races, but especially Klobenz. To finish in the front pack in a reasonably talented field is a great milestone.
The conditions weren't as favourable as last year: this year we had a head wind as opposed to a tail wind and the packs were much smaller; viewed in that context the elite mens finishing times were more impressive than last year - notwithstanding it was the same time.
In the second race, we had to start at the back. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a mix up at the first cormer about 3 km into the race and I lost Tanya and a couple of other skaters and couldn't make up the ground - but, in any event, Tanya was looking very strong and continued that way through out the rest of the marathon. |

top 25 in germany for the second race doing most of the work and taking it easy to keep the other guy - quite happy with that.

| Let's not forget it was an extra .5 km the usual race, so we can all knock a minute off. |
