| Just for your information, in the past, the organisers have let us pay on the day at the pre pay rate. Obviously better to sort it in advance if possible |

| Merten is sorting out us confirmed people so we will be registered and paid at the 37€ rate. I have Alex's email if anyone needs to contact him in this regard for others but get yourselves organised into a group rather than email individually, i.e. someone do it on behalf of the club. |

Rick, just had a letter from Duisburg saying the pay by card option was a mistake on the website and to send the money by international bank transfer (I had wondered why they hadn't taken it from my account). That will mean another £6 to £8 on top of the 49 euro.
It was always going to be a stretch to do the two, now I think I will only do the Mittelrhein. I have to the end of the month to decide.
What has happened to you? |

I got it at too. I thought I had just asked my bank to send the money last night but I haven't had a reply so it's possible I didn't send the message. It hasn't left my account and I haven't had a reply. I'll let you know on thursday.
We're all registered they just didn't take our payment. I checked my credit card statement and no money has been taken so in essense they are correct. I am also happy to pay them in cash on the day so long as the price doesn't increase if my bank doesn't make the payment. Can you PM me too please Ed? |

Rhein-Ruhr marathon results
Platz AK Name AK Halb Brutto Netto
72 28 Johnson, Rick (GBR) M40 00:53:15 01:47:49 01:47:36
85 4 Paxford, Alan (GBR) M60 00:53:17 01:48:46 01:48:35
Not great times but pretty good places. A big score for MPC Storm Surge. We skated together for pretty much all the race until the final 2½km At that point I wasn't going to give the lazy scum on the line the chance to beat me as I had been towing them for half the race and felt I deseved to take the mini win rather than let some sponges who had been saving their energy all the way take it, so I made a solo breakaway and made it stick. I even burned the line in front which was a good 200m ahead. It's quite funny how few of the locals can skate in the wet. However, considering the slipperiness, there were considerably fewer falls than on Saturday where people were dropping all over the place.
It was a pretty good weekend all in. I helped Alan smashed his PB by 6 minutes and I still can't believe how strong I was feeling. If someone had told me I was going to coast to a 1:21:23 from half way down the medium-slow start block, I would have laughed at them. Could have easily gone under 1:20 with a different line. I just hope I can maintain it for the rest of this year.
BTW Alan has now earned himself a C block start for Berlin if he wants it and because Berlin is often categorised in 5 year gaps he may have changed classifications this year. Looking good for a potential top 3 in the AK65. On that note I have just qualified for B again I am not starting there so I'll stick with my D block again.
PS I tried Matter yellows for the first time on Sat and boy are they nice to skate on! The Image one because they were 34€ cheaper than the Juice but only the hub is different. I can still see the seams after the race too so long may they roll. |

Just wanted to thank Rick for all the organising and of course for dragging me round both races in a PB and then a very respectable time, which gave me a 4th place in my age category.
They were two very different races.
MittelRhein started at 16.00 and was reasonably sunny and certainly dry. and is a point to point race beside the Rhein. It was full of people after a PB, as it is fairly flat and very smooth, as a consequence there were many fallers, and it was quite scary, but I did stay upright and achieve a PB.
Duisburg started at 08.00 and is one large lap. It was cooler and wet and many of the surfaces reminded me of London, (didn't know there were rough roads in Germany) and is a much smaller local affair, but as a result those that were there seemed to know what they were doing and I felt much more secure.
Considering that we had raced less than 24 hours before and the conditions were fairly bad, I was very pleased with my time. |

Yes - well done to you both. And on the race reports...always nice to read them. So, do both of you have aspirations for an even better race at Berlin?
It's on my list for next year - if I can drop hints to Liya about what a great anniversary present it would be |

| Koblenz is a lovely town anyway so even if she doesn't want to skate you can have a lovely anniversary together there. As for Berlin, it's not as fast as Mittelrhein in the lower orders because of the bends and the poorer road surfaces. I would still like to do a Berlin PB but I have no plans to kill myself a week before the A2A so I may just go and do a chilled race and maybe get one anyway ;¬) |
