In order to add such an endurance race at the end of the actual races, I think than 30 minutes is a good start.
more than 45 min in my opinion will lead to a split of the skaters on an event, in order to perfom on the endurance race for example, so you will find that in the end some skaters only enter the endurance race.
It will be nice to be able to enter all the races on the day for example a 1k, then a 3k and a 5k and finally a 30min+laps |

That's assuming it is done on a short track. It would be pretty dull on a track to watch people going round for 30 mins. From the cat1s you are going to get break aways and attempts to wear others down. If not there is limited incentive to race until the bell. I'd really like to see this but away from the small tracks.
Should we/I take a look at Hillingdon for the possibility? I have never been there despite it being a mere 2 or 3 miles from my house. I hear it isn't flat but so long as it isn't as hilly as Lee Valley then I am game. |

That's actually a fun format. I like it a lot. In the Netherlands these races normally have loops of around a kilometre or so, because the have the additional ruling that if you are lapped at all when the 30 minutes or so is up you have to leave the track.
Dutch races tend to start of *very* face, in an attempt to burn off a number of racers from the lead peleton quickly. They they always accelerate very rapidly in the corners, again to burn people off
Personally, I like the 30 minute races because I tended to lack the endurance to hack 45 minutes very welll. They also tended to be very fast races. I prefer a faster shorter race that a longer slower one. But that depends a lot of the type of skater you are.
Often in the Netherlands, the format is 30 minutes + 3 rounds for C skaters. B skaters tend to have something like 45 minutes the 5 rounds, and something higher for A skaters. Although I've been seeing a shift towards 40-45 minute races for C's and veterans these days.
You can see the format of the Dutch races on http://www.skatebond.nl and click on speed. |

On a too short track, too many people will feel bad after beeing lapped zillions of time by cat 1 skaters. |
Ah yes, but then you also have the additional fun of trying to jump on the back of the peleton that comes round each time. If you screw up in the first few minutes, you can another chance at joining a fast peleton. That's a disadvantage of the point to point races. Screw up on those in the start and you're on your own the rest of the race. |

BTW Malcolm is planning on running another one like Cambourne on the weekend before Berlin. Unfortunately I'll be in Europe. It was great fun last year 3 LSST in the line at the end and it was the last time I beat Hans Think it would be a bit different this year It could be quite a good warm-up for Berlin. I'm doing Cologne marathon and a bunch of skates as my warmup. |
