I'm interested...but I've no idea what category I'd be in - I was in Cat 3 last year. How can I find out (I'm not currently a FISS member)?
I know some people that were in Cat 3 have moved up, but I'm guessing that's because they appeared in a few races and did well. |

I'd probably keep you in 3 as the overall standards have improved there.
Have you improved on the track Ed? Dave is in Cat 2 and not the top end of it either. Compare yourself to him and have a think about it. |

I've paid so I'll be racing in this one
... I might be racing this weekend as well. Does anybody know which distances are set for this Sunday's South Woodham Ferrers races? |

I'm still going to Tatem, am crossing over relatively comfortably (except for when my legs get tired). I think I must have improved from last year, but tactically, I think I'm about the same.
Ah - Speedy Dave...my partner in crime on the track and overseas marathons He's definitely quicker than me off the blocks and probably over shorter distances, but I did pip him on the podium last year He has more of a racing brain than I do, and I'm too polite to break up the Birmingham pacelines.
I don't know if Adrian or Fred are better qualified to advise given that they see me at Tatem and have been to races.
I have no qualms skating in whichever cat, but having noticed that a few people I was skating with in cat 3 have moved up (albeit because they have attended and performed well at race meets), I just wanted to check. |

| Ah, this may be a case of Ed being very modest, from what I can see Ed has improved quite a lot on last year and would do very well in Cat 2. No pressure. |

Ed and even Glenn should be racing in category 2.
You guys have improved enough to be racing at that level, I don't expect that would be too fast. |

Ed!, you'll be in Cat 2.
Don't worry the Cats have changed a bit this year.
Cat 2 is now Cat2 and the fast Cat3 combined.
Cat 3 is now the rest of Cat 3 and the fast Cat 4.
And so on. |

If people are going to race at this event, please can you enter in advance.
It saves you money and help us know how many people are coming.
Entering on the day is ok, but if everyone does this, there may not be an event for you to enter. |

Thanks for the info. And nice one Fred - I'm working on Glenn to take part
I've registered and paid.
However, I'm not a FISS member and noticed it's £37.50 to sign up. I don't mean to sound stingy, but other than the licence to race at FISS events, what else do you get for your money?
At this stage, I'm more inclined to opt for a day licence. |

Ok I now entered the race too, I will have to think about categories a bit, but likely to be 2.
Ideally I would like aal our Le mans skaters to take part in the event.
I don't want to start a debate, but Ed's question is definitely something we need to work with FISS, as for most menbers paying the full menbership for one race a year is not an option, more communication around other benefits would help if there are any (third party insurances, shop discounts, etc...) |

There is an option, If you're only going to do one race a year, you're better of just getting a day licence.
There is also reduced price Fiss membership after July 1st, which is £20, I know this doesn't help for this race, but we have options. |

Joining FISS: it might get you an unearned podium at the British Marathon Champs ;-) (next year, obviously, I did that trick already this year)
I've registered. I hope I can find my race numbers before the event, now. I expect I'll be in cat 2 again and get my arse comprehensively kicked |
