That was good, although I didn't like the very last section.
What are we up against this time? |

Baseball
Golf
Karate
Rugby
Softball
Squash
It is the same seven that were rejected last time round for 2012.
I believe the final decision will be taken next year, not sure if we will have information before.

The program commission will meet in May before presenting a report to the IOC executive board.
The board meets in Lausanne in June to hear each sport’s second presentation and decide whether to cut some from the list offered to the full IOC membership. A simple majority is needed for a sport to be voted onto the program.

And some feedback

The International Federation for Roller Sports proposed to stage 10 races, five each for men and women from sprints to marathons raced on road or track.
Roberto Marotta, the IFRS secretary general, said the sport was young and dynamic and would bring 100 athletes to compete over three days.
”You can see millions of people skating all around the world,” Marotta said. ”They should like to see their sport in the Olympics.”

Andy: There are five new sports (incl. roller sports/skating) and two old sports (baseball and softball) that are now excluded from 2012 games but might get back 2016. So seven sports fighting all together for the maximum 2 places.
Btw, my Finnish federation presented roller skating to the Finnish Olympic Comittee last week and they were more than happy about how it went. Also the committee members were quite convinced.
What about in the UK, is the federation doing something about this? You still have got almost a year |

I have got Andy to link it on the FISS site and asked the BRSF webmaster to do likewise.
I'm not sure BRSF have any specific plans to lobby the BOC. I think the probably have to British IOC members as that is where the decision is coming from. Britain will I expect be supporting Rugby and some other sport that we stand a chance of getting a medal in, possibly Squash. I suspect they are most likely a bunch of stuffies who are so out of touch with the youth that they don't know what will attract them to the Olympics.
HM Government would be happier to see speed skating in the Olympics as it sits very nicely with the need to get people exercising and it doesn't need expensive facilities to get people started. Rugby is a team sport and requires land. Softball and Baseball never caught on the much when they were in, what is bringing them back going to do. Golf doesn't really get the heart up much to be considered good exercise. Karate is not something the government could endorse as an exercise programme thoughit is probably one of the best if done properly. Squash is pretty good with available facilities that aren't too expensive. It's easy to understand but has been known to give people heart attacks. Skating is open access and you can speed skate against a clock so you can do it solo if you want it's good for transport and health. The FIRS video sums it all up pretty well. Better than their super cheesy Amazing Rollersports video earlier on. |

I think it would be criminal if BRSF do not lobby.
Whilst I think your breakdown of the relative ups and downs of each sport (and probably, the assumption of which one Britain might end up supporting) to be accurate, I think they should heed two things.
Firstly BRSF who purport to be the "National Governing Body for Roller Sports in the United Kingdom" have a moral obligation to lobby for inclusion (were all federations not specifically requested to do this by FIRS and CERS?)
Secondly, just because we might not be favorite is poor justification indeed not to go for it. Do I need to remind you (BRSF) that Paris was hot favorite for the 2012 Olympics and look what happened when some keen and determined Brits decided they would go for it anyway?
I do sincerely hope they go for this with a bit more gusto than they currently seem to be
Oh, I liked the video |

For someone who remembers what happened 3 years ago when they voted the sports for London 2012.
Do you know how the voting is done? What is the system? Do they vote first how many sports they will have 2016 and then the sports? or othey way round? And how do they vote for sports? excluding 1 sport each round or deciding directly the 2 or 1? or some other way? Must be quite political game.. |
