I went out round Camberely with the guys for a little street skate earlier, and while this has nothing to do with what I'm about to ask / put forward, I thought you'd all want to know.

1.  I saw some bizarre 'wobble board' where you stand on it and there's a column underneath in the middle.  The idea is that you balance it and it should build leg strength and, presumably balance.  Any good?

2.  Cycling - Is there a 'best cycle' to use for road use - e.g. mountain bike / vs racing bike?  I'd imainge that as a mountain bike would be harder work (increased friction) that this would be a better, albeit slower, choice?  For gym goers (that's me) upright / recumbent / no difference.  I can go waaaay quicker on the recumbent in the gym.  Also, better to go for rpm, or changing resistance machines?

3.  Weights - Anyone tried training with ankle weights / wrist weights.  I did some of this for swimming and it's hard work, but pays off immensely.

4.  Swimming - Not a question, but I'd advocate this as an all rounder for anyone.  Being forced to breathe at specific points I think increases my aerobic capcity more than anything else that I do.

I have built a couple of these for Michi and me to practice one-leg balance. I think this is quite a good idea to have, especially because it is small and very very simple to build.

There's other variants used by physios, they are sometimes round or a board chained into a steel frame. All have the same basic concept.

I got a wobble board from Tescos last year, but didn't really keep up with it.  I since found that I can't balance on my left leg for any length of time without it getting rather tired anyway, so I figure I should work on that first.  Usually while waiting in checkout lines, on tube platforms, for the kettle to boil at work, etc.

Yes, I do get funny looks.  Why?

You should tell them you just joined an amateur dramatics society and your first role is as a flamingo. You are practicing in order to impress and hopefully move on to bigger a bigger role in the next production. You're not worried about doing it so well that you get type cast as there aren't that many flamingoes in theatre.

Method, daaaarlings xx (<- air kisses)
