Anyone around next Sunday (27th) for a bike ride?
There had been talk of going around the plains of Ipswich and visit Andy, but more recent inclinations to keep it somewhere closer to London.
I guess we'd be looking at an earlyish start (8 or 9ish) to ensure we finish before we lose daylight.
Tanya, Diego and I did a Tour de London cycle a few months back:
- Hyde Park
- Battersea Park
- Richmond Park
- Crystal Palace
- Hyde Park
(we were meant to go to Alexandra Palace, but ran out of time)
We could perhaps give that another go, and hopefully not too much traffic, but it can be very stop start.
Alternatively, maybe cycle towards Richmond / Twickenham / Kingston and do a ride out that way and back again.
Open to any other ideas, though not sure Dan's hilly route is wise so soon after being weighted down by Xmas dinners!
Yay:
- Ed
- Tanya
- Matthew B
- Glenn
Maybe:
- Sol
- Sparky
- BigSteev
- Diego (front wheel / tyre replacement offered)
<edit>All this will be subject to a weather call. We've had some exceptionally cold days, where it's been quite icy / slippery.
Likely to still go ahead in light rain.</edit>
Update - 26/12
Please check again the night before in case of any last minute changes, and a go / no go will be made in the morning.
Plan C - Richmond Park:
- For those that want to cycle from Central London to Richmond Park, meet at Cafe Nero's, Spring Street (W2 3RA) in Paddington at 0820 for an 0830 departure.
- Tanya / Matthew B to lead us to Richmond Park (maybe picking up Gav at Wandsworth enroute)
- Do 2-3 laps
- Return back for about 1100-1130ish

Sounds good, although not so sure about Dan's hilly route
....and of course I am a fair weather cyclist. Will go out in the cold but not wind and rain |

I am still very interested in this one, but might give it a miss if extremely cold or icy (especially due to my fingers falling off, still need to sort out winter gloves!)
Also, need to sort out what my girlfriend wants to do that day cos' I wouldn't like to leave her all alone all day, but that shouldn't be a big deal... |

Sol wants to do some faster stuff over xmas too. |

You mean after that wiggle weekend, you still haven't got any gloves?! I've managed to fish out some hiking gloves which I think will be fine for the meantime.

Cool - will list them as maybes (I know Lurch is on the forum) so that I don't forget to contact them.
And ha ha - I am faster on the bike than the last few country rides around this time last year, but yet to test myself on a proper ride, i.e. one without traffic light stops that allow me to recover. I have no doubt you are still faster than me!
I'd be up for a friendly-steady-paced-wait-at-the-next-junction type of ride.
All:
To be honest, I'd be fine for organising getting people together at a given location, but I'd have no idea about direction so would be grateful if someone could volunteer / lead a route / lead (or give an idea of directions) otherwise it will be a short cycle
If no volunteers received by Thursday (to give people time to plan their weekend), then we'll postpone to next year
Tanya, would you be happy to "lead" a Palace to Palace (via the parks) route if no other routes are put to the table? |

| I can lead people from somewhere to somewhere - the route might be a bit wiggly. |

| LOL! Perfect, thank you! Just so expectations are roughly set...once you have had a chance to think about it, could you give an indication of where roughly you'd be thinking? (e.g. Tour de London or somewhere out of London). |

I would have LOVED to join you. But I'm not even in the country.
I hope there'll be another opportunity after NYE then. |

+1 to coming, or + 1 to being out the country?
You can come if you use your son's bike |

I'd say Tour de London as it should be warmer and less chance of being icy than the countryside. |

I shall leave you disappointed, but proper winter gloves are the only thing I didn't sort out yet...
That's due to too many mixed reviews of the ones I tried.
But I've kind of made my mind up at this point, if I'm lucky I'll sort them out tomorrow |

Why don't you guys come out to the Kent countryside and ride with Catford CC? They are a really good club, and have some super routes. Easy to get to, too. Take a train Victoria - Bromley South, 20 mins trip, trains every 15 minutes or more often. I'll meet you and ride you out to the club starting point.
Of course if it's very cold, I think London and main roads might be best. |
