Over to Fred ...

Not much left to comment Smile

The second pack carried on behind Hans until he was finish with his lap.

Then everything was quiet again even if it was our last lap Smile I waited a bit and gently took the lead of the pack...and waited for the corner just before the start line and launch an attack, I was away for a while but I was getting really tired and was caught a hundred meters from the last turn, I jumped on the back of two powerslide guys and one from Birmingham, but was very tired for the sprint and badly positioned Smile

It wasn't an easy race, and I was strugling a lot at the start with my calves, after a while it was alright but probably just because the speed wasn't very high.

As I hung with the girls I saw Matt P sat at the side with wheels off trying to sort something which I knew would keep him off the top step and that's the last of the front runners.

When Chris S, and Matt P lapped the second pack we went with them for a lap, when we arrived in the turn before the finish line I saw a shinny piece of metal bounce on the ground, it looked like a bolt and I thought it was trouble, Matt stood and looked puzzled he was skating on one leg and moved his frame with his hand...it was his bolt... Chris S carried on and he probably didn't notice for a while that Matt P stopped.

Like the pic of Fred sprinting (_IMG_0315_cp1.jpg)

The story with it Smile It was during the warm up, he was taking pictures next to the start line, I was on my way and I saw him taking pictures... well what can I say... I sprinted down the turn before the start line and carried on for an other hundred meters Smile  it's a cool picture Smile

Cheers. Point is you can skate like that if you need to, some us can't.

There was quite a lot of playing to the camera on that start straight, sadly I wasn't really ready so there are more blurred grins and 'low style' than focused! Should have had the L plates on  Smile

It was Glenn that went over Sharon. Fede had crashed out with cramp a couple of laps earlier.

Was Sharon alright (apart from pride and some grazing/general aching)? Looking at the photos it looks like Glenn kicked her (unintentionally) in addition to whatever grazing she may have got in the fall. Assume Glenn was fine since he seemed to carry on ok.

I saw Sharon last night. She has her arm in plaster up to her elbow,as they think it's a broken bone somewhere at the base of her thumb, but they'll take the plaster off in a fortnight and xray it again and decide whether or not to replaster from there. She is generally better though, and managed to do the training sessions the kids this week and was skating on Wednesday.
cheers
Cherie

Just noticed there is a picture of it in the Gallery :

They have two laps to go... the picture was taken maybe a second after Matt lost his bolt, you can tell by the very concerned looks on the face of the second pack Smile

Cherie,

Really sorry to hear about Sharon's injury but glad that she is recovering and is in good spirits. Please do give her my best wishes.

Alastair - not sure what photo you are talking about. If I did, it was certainly unintentional - all I remember was that Sharon fell over sideways/diagonally in front of me. I tried to avoid her but couldn't and then tried to get back to the pack - but again couldn't.

Whilst I didn't have a great race, I really did learn about the importance of cross overs (even for marathons - it was a fairly windy course) and that I will have to get better at skating longer distances whilst changing speeds. I didn't have confidence in either of these - so left the main lead pack very early and skated in the more steady thrid pack until I fell with a few laps to go. Will certainly be looking to improve on both those aspects in the comming weeks/months.

I've pm'd Dan about this but I now find that I have 3 of the Lille plastic pin containers.  One is Dan's, one is mine - and the other is...???

Evidently they're breeding ...

Keep two of them and maybe we'll have enough by September to give them out to LIM competitors

Glenn. I got 6 photos of the fall from when Sharon was on the ground sideways (Gav has the 1st 3 for those involved) but wouldn't intend them to be gallery shots!

Sure it was unintentional, that close you have nowhere to go - it's just unintentional or not a kick is going to hurt! With a tight pack like that it was more amazing the 2 guys behind you managed to get out of the way!
