A small race report of the Raps24Kika, the Dutch 24h race:
Most memorable of this edition were the weather conditions. The windforce started of with some 5-6 Beufort. But when it started to rain around 19 things realy got ugly.
Wind blowing at 7-8 and heavy rain comming in horizontal. At 10 o'clock at some places on the course water was standing up to 4 inches deep. At that point the race was stopped for two hours (which we spend waiting at the restaurant). When the rain had stopped and we returned to the campside it turned out that in and round our tent there was some 4-5 inches of water. Skates, clothing, food, a sleeping bag of one of the team members, Tessa's camera.. all soaking wet.
At the point of the restart of the race Remco and Greazer took a two person shift while the rest of the team (4 persons). Moved the tent to a dryer spot. (Quite a chalenge in the strong wind). Then two 3 person shifts 02.00-05.00 and 05.00-08.00. Not raining that heavy anymore but soe showers from time to time. Both shifts got their share. The surface of the FevonIce track is a true wonder. Even in soaking wet conditions it still provides extremely good grip. No problem skating on the yellow matters. At 10 the track finaly dried again. But the wind still blowing at 7 Beaufort.
In the end we finished 2nd. Eight laps behind the winner and one and a half lap in front of nr 3. Woohoo.
In total: Extreme weather and an extreme good atmoshere in the ILSE team. And we gathered 851 euro for the Children Cancer fund.
