Hello there,

I know this is VERY short notice, but I made up my mind just now...

I am planning to have a bike ride on Saturday, Oct 24th.

The plan is to take it quite easy, cycling approximately 90/100km on a not-too-difficult route.

I will probably be taking these ones as examples:

a) http://www.southernsportive.com/?go=sunday&eventid=268&page=routes&route=short

b) http://www.southernsportive.com/?go=sunday&eventid=268&page=routes&route=mid

If anyone fancies coming along, I will be probably taking the 8:10 train from London Charing Cross to Reigate, where the routes start.

I am also considering to have regular(ish) rides throughout the winter, more or less once a week either on Saturdays or on Sundays, so if anybody is interested in planning them or joining you're welcome.

Again, the plan would be to increase (slowly) the mileage for each ride, but keep a constant nice pace (i.e. aiming to possibly stop no more than once for some food, with an average speed between 20 and 25 kph).

Diego

Boo!

I would have liked to come along, but that's too early.  I might also have plans to meet a friend, but if I am free, I'd only be so from about 12pm onwards Sad

I'll have a look at the route and see if I can join in part of the way through...though I suspect you'd be finished by then.

well, I am fairly flexible with my schedule... I will start early if nobody else is coming along, considering that it would take about 4 hours to cycle that route at a not-too-fast pace.

we can start later, but still need to find out timetables for trains and keep in mind that it'll get dark at some point...

I'll check the trains leaving in the afternoon from Charing Cross.

I'm not meeting my friend anymore, but still not free until 12pm.

Keep me posted with what you're up to, and if you end up starting early, let me know where you think you'll be around 1pmish and I'll see if I can get there.

There are three trains per hour from Charing Cross to Reigate, and it takes one hour to get there...

Do you reckon you'd be able to make the 12.40pm one?

That way we could start riding around 1.45pm

Sunset is 5.48, though, so we might fall a bit short of time there...

Estimated time for the middle route is 4hr 7mns at a 24.5kph (15.25mph) pace (that is the top end of what I'd like to do with the climbing in the middle...) or 4hr 34mns at a more comfortable and realistic (for me- 22.1kph (13.75mph) pace.

That said, I'll prepare plan B with the short route, that should take more or less 35/40 minutes less...

Let me know what you think!

Cool, the more the merrier! Wink

Route I will follow tomorrow if with friends is: www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=24197

The route is anticlockwise (the first bit is actually going left at the fork, then the return route overlaps again and at the second fork we take a right and go anticlockwise).

Forecast is for light rain/drizzle with up to 16° C (so warm and wet, be prepared).

If you come along and can print a copy of the route even better.

We'll try to make the 12.10 train from Charing Cross, if we miss that we'll go for the 12.40 one.

Maybe next time?

Ed is busy in the morning, so we're planning on leaving just after noon...

Definitely interested in joining you for the future, though! Smile

Don't blame me Smile  I could quite happily laze around in bed Smile

Sol, what's the average speed of your club ride?

I was actually just saying that we cannot join them tomorrow at 9.00am...

That said, we can join them next Saturday, same time I suppose... Wink

Avg speed depends which group you're in. I'd say the front does around 20mph and back about 17
Also you need to able to ride through-and-off or chaingang !

Ride postponed...some of us (read "me") are not hardcore enough to cycle when it's wet :)

Lightweights!
We did a little 41 mile Saturday Stroll today, unfortunately had to slow down to 17mph avg due to the weather. But was much fun! Specially trying to find dry bits on my person afterwards  Laughing
