Just wondered who's going to this and what flights people have booked?

We usually get a carful or 2 together and drive down. Not sure who'll be going this year. I would if there's a bunch of us going

Thanks Sol for the reply. So who's up for doing this and car pooling?

Hi there,

I am definitely not good enough at speed skating to face a full marathon with some chances of getting a good result, but on the other hand I wan to get to Berlin (my target for this year) with some experience and I need to start from somewhere... Wink

So if I can take a day off (I guess you will be leaving on Friday) I'd be up to joining you on the way to Rennes.

Btw, I don't own a car...

Also, I will need a lot of advice from some of you on how to prepare for this trip, though. Thumbs Up

Cheers!

Cheers Dave!

This is good news, so I can choose according to my fitness level  Smile

Do I need to register in advance, or could I do it when we're there (so that I can choose at the last minute which length to go for)?

Also, do I need to be a FISS member to register and take part in the marathon?

It's also the main distance for Veterans in France so there will be some >35 skaters going round at excellent speeds.

It's actually quite hard to get into the 42km

and if it's anything like Lille (I assume it is, they're both french races), also quite hard to stay with the pack if you are in the 42km.

Well, therefore I guess that it is not a good occasion to start with my first marathon...  Shocked

I might then stick with your advice and go for the 30k one, just to see how it goes and have a reference for the future!

French Inline cup 2009 rules changes :

http://www.rollerenligne.com/fr/articles.php?id=1782

In Short :
* Only 7 races
* block start on the marathon, (elite and national will start separately) only for mens category, junior category start in the second pack.
* Marathon deadline is raised to 1H30 minutes to allow people to finish. (you will be stopped after that).
*category stickers on the numbers
*sport+ tv contract terminated because too expensive.

The idea is to push people racing in the open race to move up in the national category on the marathon, by spliting the elites and national it should help make the national category bigger, the aim is to get any decent/regular skater to race on the marathon and make the open race a more accessible race for beginners.

It will probably take a couple of years to see changes in the actual level in both marathon and open races.

Are there still people going to this one?

If so (and if you still plan to go by car) when would you leave?

I understand that the race is on Saturday, do you (we? Razz ) leave on Friday and spend the night out?

Is it possible to register on the day for the 30k race?

Thanks!  Smile
