First weekend in June. The one after the Flaeming camp. Marathon is Sunday morning and it's tricky to register on the Saturday but you can register on the day before 07:30. 70 on the day. You either need a German bank account to register in advance or know a friendly German Wink

Cheaper hotels are running out in Duisburg but it's close to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn so you can go further away than nearby. Fiona and I are staying in the Hotel am Stadion right next to the Sports Park so it might be a place to put gear for the race.

For those that haven't done it, it's mostly fairly flat apart form the 3 bridges over rivers, 1 over the Rhur and 2 over the Rhine. Surfaces are variable. Mostly excellent but a bit of industrial area and one sort of parkland area where there are some undulations due to tree roots but they mark it well and it was much smoother than I remember last time. There is alo a brick style cobbled section through a shopping area which is nice and wide but uncomfortable, about 300m in length and not great if it rains. Pace lines fall apart here. Normally the finish is inside a football stadium where you skate round three sides of the pitch on a good surface (2 left turns) a bit difficult to overtake. When you turn onto Kalkweg you have just over 2km to go so you don't normally start sprinting until you turn right off it then left into the carpark for some attack moments.

It clashes with one of the events in Switzerland if you are planning on doing the Swiss Skate Tour. If you want something closer then this is a good one for you and it is very driveable 3 hours from Dunkirk ot 3h45 from Channel Tunnel if you don't want to fly to Dusseldorf on German Wings.
