Would have been up for this, but I'm away the first 2 weeks of Sept; also the Hoggs Hill racing falls on the same day (I would have thought that would be a better event for skating) and would be good to support a new venue (we really need it).

What is that? - I can't find anything in a search.

It's the South Woodham club race

Don't think I've received confirmation of which races will be held, but will post as soon as I see something

That sounds awesome - being new to all of this - is it just a matter of registering for an FISS license, registering for the event and turning up? (if it turns out to be a full marathon)

What is the standard like outside of Goodwood? I got 01.25 and 8th in the Marathon there, but I'm still in a completely different league to Ed et al. If I take part would I be embarrassingly outclassed?

hey the best way to get better, and to get experience, is to do lots of training and lots of races.  embarrassment (though I don't think there would be any!) is just something that happens along the way.  don't be put off doing any races, go for it!!!

venue is awesome.  Pamela and I went to look at it as a possiblility for LIM, but decided that it wasn't appropirate for a marathon.  The circuit can be split into a number of different loops, with the longest being 2.2km and having some amazing downhills.  We just didn't feel the uphill would encourage anyone to actually take part!

Details for the cycle centre can be found here

http://www.vision-rcl.org.uk/redbridge_cycle_centre.html

The event on 5th September I think is just using the 1km loop at the bottom of the hill, so pretty much flat with some really nice corners.  Assume there will be a number of different races depending on category, probably ranging from 500m to 10km, but I may be wrong.  I think it's unlikey to be marathon distance because 42 laps could cause a bit of a lap counting nightmare

I like, I'm starting to take an interest, how will I do on 90 wheels?

Just been sent this:

The South Woodham Ferrers Club will be organizing a race event on Sunday 5th September 2010, at Redbridge Cycle Track, Forest Road, Hainault, Essex. The track we will be using is 1.15k per lap

Program of events will be as follows:

Mini Boys/Girls (awarded independently) - 1 lap & 2 laps
Pupil Boys/Girls (awarded independently) - 1 lap & 3 laps
Cadet Boys/Girls (awarded independently) - 3 laps & 5 laps
Senior Men/Ladies (awarded independently) - 5 laps & 10 laps

I should imagine Curly will have more details

Nice to see the marathon types coming over to track racing.

Remember it will be more tactical than you are used to. Imagine the last lap of a marathon without the boring 1hour 15min warm up...

It'll be interesting to see if the loops they are using are the flat ones at the bottom of the circuit. If so there may be scope for sharing the venue/cost with the slalom skateboarders in the future.

They are.  Think you can hire just the bit at the bottom for a reduced fee

You sign up for all the races, but you don't have to do all, but you might as well.
