We're thinking of doing a small skate trip to Switzerland in September. Has anyone done such a trip or have any recommendations please? We've followed a link from myswitzerland.com. I'm wondering if it's worth paying for one of the 'defined' routes where they'll take your bags, or if it's better to just set up a base somewhere nice and just do a few routes on our own? I'll have a fairly novice skater with me, so no big hills / huge routes please!
Thanks |

We have done several of the 'defined' routes, where they carry your bags, a few years ago now though. We did the Rhine route, and the Rhone route, and enjoyed both of them, though I think the Rhone route was best. We have also skated a little of the Mittelland route but was not so impressed with that.
Looking at the web site they seem to have changed the routes a bit since we did them so I am not sure how relevant our experience is, but I think they might be slightly challenging for a novice.
You could base yourself somewhere on Lake Constance, there are good bike/skate paths all around the lake, and also railways/ferries to take you home if tired.
I have the Skatelines Schweiz book if you are interested, that describes the Mittelland, Rhone and Rhine tours - but only in German. |

| Thanks for the info Roger. When I say novice, that may not be fair. The half marathon at Goodwood is well within their grasp... I quite like the idea of Lake Constance and then relying on public transport should things go awry though. |

Speak to Linda (http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=651561735&ref=ts) - I don't think she visits the forum often.
She did a skate tour of sorts around Switzerland, so might have some pointers... |

Yes, I ran a little tour around the area. More of a holiday really than a tour. Just contact me directly if you want any advice.
I've heard a lot of people are going to do the Rhein skate this year. Is there a link to this? I fancy going too. I just love skating there. |

Not very good at links, but it's on Serpentine Road, under events and there is a Facebook group; which I think is open to anyone. |
