The South Woodham Ferrers Club will be organizing a race event on Sunday 11th June 2006, at William De Ferrers Centre, South Woodham Ferrers, starting at 1pm. All entries together with the correct fee should be sent to me at the above address (cheque made payable to: SWF Rollerspeed Skating Club)

I apologise for getting the information out so late but we have had interest from a TV company about making a program on Rollerspeed skating and have been waiting for their confirmation.

We would really appreciate the support from all skaters at this meeting, as there will also be local dignitaries watching the event, and recently we have been making good progress with our campaign for getting our own purpose built facility.

Closing date for entries will be Friday 2nd June. Please note that any entries received after this date or entry on the day will be at double the normal entry fee.

Program of events will be as follows:

Cat 1 - 500m & 3000m + 5000m Devils
Cat 2 - 500m & 3000m + 5000m Devils
Cat 3 - 500m & 2000m + 3000m Devils
Cat 4 - 500m & 1500m + 3000m Devils
Cat 5 - 500m & 1500m + 2000m Devils
Cat 6 - 300m & 800m + 1500m Devils
The entry fee will be £ 10.00 per entry, which will cover all races. Please could you pass this information on to all of your club members.

I look forward to seeing you on the above date.

Yours Sincerely

Debbie Moore
Club Secretary SWF RSC

Yo Matt, I'm hoping to do it, will send in mine tomorrow. Only applied for FISS membership last week, so I don't know how long that'll take to sort, hopefully will be ready in time! Presumably I'll be plonked into an appropriate category...?

Hey Garan,

I reckon you belong in Cat 2. But they might put you in 3 to give you a gentle start if they don't really know you ability.

Cool, hope to see you there.

That sounds about right. Difficult to tell since you have never raced on the track before. I'd say 3 was the place to start. I know you can plod at a highish pace but how is your sprinting?

My sprinting aint great (especially starts) and I'm obviously quite inexperienced skating with other people on the track so I'm hoping that gets taken into account!  Surprised

Your 53sec 500m at Tatem was pretty good though.   Laughing

I much prefer Tatem to the South Woodham car park track - couldn't get the hang of the corners.

It's a car park. Assuming we are using the same bit, it has no banking but it is on a slight slope. The turn at the far end from the leisure centre is slightly off camber which can make sliding a lot more likely for use heavier skaters. The turn at the other end you need to make sure you don't exit wide or you end up having to hop a curb that juts out. Bit of excitement there. Can't remember how long a lap is.

Once again we have recieved hardly any entries for our race at the weekend...I have a total of 8 entries between cats 1, 2 & 3. We have worked hard putting this meeting on and trying to get exposure for the sport and I am very disappointed that we have not had the support from some of you skaters or clubs. We have given out 1000 leaflets to local schools, and had some good publicity in local newspapers. At the moment people will think there are only 13 skaters in the country!! Not very good for our sport or the ones who have made the effort to enter...........................Moan over.........I hope to see some of you turn up on the day.

Well guys and gals... it would be great if as many people that can make it go along! They really need our support!

Ugh... this'll be a double edged sword for me - is it an increased chance of winning, or an increased chance of me coming last! Smile

Maybe both Very Happy

Nobody asked for a lift yet, but there is loads of room in my car for extra bodies. Enjoyed it loads last year despite the littluns beating me at least I got to beat Ray Twisted Evil

Oh dear, it's unfortunate to have such a poor turnout.

I encourage you all to come, you'll get on T.V and help the South Woodham Ferrers kids raise money to buy a new skating track.

Further more you can clock up some points in the rankings Very Happy .

Well Garan and I made an appearsnce at the race today. the weather was sunny and hot to an insane degree. Rolling Eyes

There were alot of racers from the lower categories because it was the south woodham ferrers event. There were only 4 racers in category 1 and James Ashby took the gold.

There were 7 in category 2 including me and Garan.

In the first race, a 500m, I got a good start and finished first. Garan (not being a sprinter) still managed to come 6th (I think?).

The second race was a 3000m. Daniel Smith took the victory in this after a terrific breakaway that no one could catch up with. I came 3rd behind Robert McDonald and Garan came close behind in fourth.

The overall podium possitions were 1. Robert McDonald, 2. Me, 3. Dan Smith

The devil had to be shortend, because of the poor turn out, from 5k to about 3k. Garan came off and finished 6th and I managed 4th. James Ashby won followed by Dan Smith and then Rob McDonald.

The race was a clean one with no accidents (or fouls) and was a lot of fun. I think I got on T.V and the program is due to be shown on Anglia T.V some time later on in the year. Very Happy
