Cologne is nearly upon us and the forecast is wet, wet, wet
A well known and well respected friend suggests that Star Wheels are a bit naff in the wet. Jonathan Suetter, whom I've only met once but is a pretty well known and experienced skater reckons that they grip great in the wet and were worn by his wife, Kim Ames, on her 2nd place run in last year's Athens to Atlanta. http://www.racereports.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=804
What shall I do? |

Could it be that Eddy or Kim would have done equally well in rubbish wheels given their level of skill.
From the forums I have been reading the Stars are not as good as the hyper plus grip compound in the wet. I suppose the only way to find out for certain is to try them out. |

Well I know that I'm not quite as good as Eddy, not sure about Kim
I am trying praying for good weather but that doesn't always work In which case I might volunteer to be the team guinea-pig - anyone got a spare pair of crutches just in case
Out of interest I've got some unused Ocra wheels and some little used metal hubbed Intzcore in my wheel box |

| Saw the forecast a little earlier. With a mild muscular strain in one my internal obliques I won't race if it's wet as when I slip it jars. That's why I had to stop on the LondonSkate last night. It's okay if I don't try to sprint and there is plenty of grip. Can't risk it with so much other stuff lined up that I'd rather rest until my trip to Berlin to give the best chance of recovery. I'll still go to Cambourne and offer lifts but I will probably be a track marshal there. |

Since Mauro was there, how likely do you think Eddy would compromise his chances with a poorly performing wet weather wheel? |

I did a 3 hour skate on wet roads recently on the Star Grips, and my (subjective) opinion is that they are no worse than any other wheel in the wet.
NB. That was on the translucent compound. Kay's 90mm Star Grips are the white compound, but she wasn't using them that day. Some web sites list the white wheels as a track wheel, and the clear ones as a road wheel. Does anybody here have a view on that? |

At Engadine the Zepto guys were racing on Stars. That was prrrrretty wet, and the feedback was good from that.
Although the white and transparent are apparently the same compound, Cat (danish girl on Zepto) said to me she thinks the whites are slightly harder wearing. |

Continental wheels for wet a pretty good. Tho they brake really easily.
And they cost £100 for 10 with bearings! |
