I'm planning to skate the skate tonight (Circle line skate). I haven't skated on the streets much in a while. The dilemna, speed skates or rec skates? It's possible that street skating in my speed skates wrecked my ankle last year, but I don't know.
Pros and cons . . personal preferences . . please comment. Thanks. |

| Speedskates with relatively soft wheels should be ok, 84A or less, so no pink bont or yellow matter wheels. If not at hand go for comfy rec skates. |

Personally:
I skated an LFNS RC in my speedskates a month or so ago and the vibrations from the surfaces fatigued my legs and made the bony parts of my feet sore (including ankle) - granted, it was a rougher than normal route.
In contrast, I did the LondonSkate yesterday in my rec skates (Powerslide Hardcore Evo) and it was soooo comfy.
I used to skate in my speedskates all the time, but I think that over the past year, I've only really worn them at Tatem and races meaning I've lost my tolerance to skating London streets on them.
IF the plan is to go the distance and you know you can skate the whole route on your rec skates, I'd say do that. If you want to see how far you can go with your speedskates, then make sure you're prepared to stop once / if they hurt. I know how frustrated you were when you couldn't do sessions on your speedskates because of ankle pain, and I don't think it's worth going back with your progress for the sake of 3 hours. |

I'd say the speed skates without question - you'll get to the Vic way faster.
And shouldn't you be a marshal by now? |

Should this have been a poll? I don't get to the streetskates often enough to marshall, I think I'd get lost.
<edit>Oh and i forgot to mention that I've got a swollen ankle already, not sure what from, no pain, but imagine it's probably worth bearing in mind though?</edit> |

( Luckily for me ) there's usually lots of people in bright colours to follow
Er, I've marshalled in 4x80 FSKs, 4x90 ( x2 ), 4x100 ( x2 ) and 4x110
I prefered my speedskates, but found 4x110 is a bit OTT. I reckon *my* ideal would be a short 4x100, or maybe 4x90 frame on speeds skates. |

| Speedskates always, unless you are gonna quad it up. |

| Whatever you are used to, innit. Uh, unless you are 'putting time in' to get used to something else.. In which case whatever you aren't used to. |

I always wear 80s on the streets (evos) as I don't get the necessary control from my 100s, especially stopping at speed
this may be as much to do with my own failings than the boots themselves, but anyhoo. |

| I saw you skating home - I was going the otherway on my bike (just before you crossed the junction at Baker St), but by the time I recognised you, you had already zipped by. It looked like you were on your rec skates, but couldn't quite tell. |

| Totally didn't see you, sorry. Yeah anyway, was doing my Vic -> Kings Cross Skate, in Rec skates yep. I was enjoying that skate, although I'm not used to the rubbing I get as I don't wear them often enough. |
