I'm starting Sunday morning sprints again.  09.30 on South Carriage Drive, hope to see you there this Sunday 11th June.

Disclaimer
* Done at your own risk, you need to be a capable skater, including over rough surfaces.
* You need to have sufficient base skating miles in your legs.
* Don't push harder than you know your body is capable of, it's always better to go slower with lower intensity, and work on your technique.  More intensity will come as you progress.
* Watch out for others, this isn't a race so it doesn't matter if we start in two waves, or give way to pedestrians and others.

We can't do this on the Serpentine Road, there are too many people around, and both them and the horse people get upset by us going fast.  Plus the speed limit for all is 15mph, and it's 30 on South Carriage Drive.

I missed these all of last summer but would like to do them.

Any chance you'd consider the odd occasional guest appearance at Hillingdon to do these? Smile

I won't be there the 11th, but I'll try to make it the following sundays.

I'd love to, but I have to be in Hyde Park to teach, so I can't unfortunately.  There's nothing to stop you doing these kind of intervals yourself.  You just need a lap timer and someone willing to take charge innit.

I'd like to see more people timing themselves, it makes for useful training information.

Garmin is my friend - I use it whenever I do any sort of skate training and think it's fantastic!

Was of great use and entertainment at Preston Smile

And no worries about not making it to Hillingdon, completely forgot about your teaching Embarassed

Yeah, you have one of those little beauties, don't you?  Very nice toy!  I was aiming the timing comment more generally mind, especially for these intervals and for the session Gav runs at Tatem.

I'll try and be a regular; great to have another training session with the team.

I'm having some thoughts on whether we should really be doing 500m since many of us already do this and other shorter distances at Tatem.  I'm wondering whether 3km intervals wouldn't be more appropriate.

Mike - were would you do them - 3 laps of the Serp?

I had another clarification question - are you intending to start warming up at 9.30 or start the intervals at 9.30 (and hence have assumed people have warmed up).

I don't have a strong personal preference; 3000 would probably suit me better as I need to build up my endurance.

Aye, this week we did 500s.  It's probably not ideal to be doing two sets of 500s a week, at least if your goals are marathon related like mine.  I'll stick with 500s for this Sunday.

Glenn, I haven't thought about where to do the 3km, probably on South Carriage Drive again, it's too busy and unsafe to use the Serpentine for anything like this during spring and summer.  I'd have to check out and measure a course first.

No, we will start warmup at 09.30 sharp.  No 10 min grace period, so if anyone is late they will have to go do their own warmup before joining in.

Great session Mike - one 1,500 and 5 by 500s were testing - but shame we were stopped by the police for security reasons (i.e. leaving our bags and bikes in an open public area) before we were allowed to finish our session.

Linda and I did another set of 5 by 500s in the afternoon with Naomi and her friend Martin - so was pretty nackered by the end of the day.

Naomi still looking fast but her friend Martin could be real fast. He's a competitive cyclist at national level (currently racing twice a week) and has been socially skating for quite some time. He's never done any speed-skating and rocked up with his ancient recreational skates but still managed to be pretty speedy on his rest day off.

He's a member of London Dynmo's; hopefully, we can recruit him during the winter - he has another friend (ex triathelete now specialist cyclist) who may be interested in speed-skating as a way of cross training.

And on this Sunday, 09.30 start sharp at the pavement/pedestrian crossing across South Carriage drive towards HPC.  I'm not sure what length we'll be doing yet, either 500s or 3kms, not that 3km is a sprint, LOL.
