Just been sent this by a club mate

Please pass this on to everybody other clubs and time trial forums that you may know. Maybe we can get the bike back to the rightful owner and stop a bit of bike crime at the same time.
I was offered a top end Plant X Stealth Carbon Pro Time Trial bike for £1000 on Friday, Feb 19th.
The bike retails for over £2500 at retailers.
The guy who was trying to sell the bike is Eastern European, didn't know a thing about the bike, couldn't answer questions of age, where he bought it. Very suspicious. Retails about £2500 at Bike Radar.
Located in Kingston/Surbiton area. I saw it, took measurements and photographs but couldn't see a serial number anywhere.

How amazing!
An update on said bike:

Hi all,
The suspicious bike alert posted on TCC's mail group set off a wave of communication to other clubs in the area. Within 20 minutes of posting, I received an email from the rightful owner who had his 3 bike stolen from his house in May 2009.
How it happened: The email landed on a number of forums, one a triathlon forum, Full On Tri, where a friend of the owner spotted the bike and alerted the owner who then emailed me. All this happened in less than 30 minutes which shows the power of email and the Internet and the community of cyclists who look out for each other.
The police have been notified and are on the case.
Thanks to all who forwarded this on to others.

Good to know that the cycling community takes care of his members.
After all, we put so much effort (and money) in cycling and really don't deserve having our bikes taken away from us.
Hope the rightful owner can get his bike back shortly! |

Hi all,

Unfortunatly, it was the same for my stolen bike, I knew who was selling it (with a land line phone), but the police couldn't be bothered or didn't have the time for it. I got a nice offer of counceling though...
Lets hope it will be different this time. |
