Interesting debate; guess we'll wait for Fred to post. I suppose I was asking what was the point of the 30 mins. Was it primarily to work on technique skating or to build endurance.
On a normal day I could hold the pace for 30 mins without too much problems heart wise, but saying that I would have to cheat and skate and stand up more often and my technique would fall away even more than it does skating at a slower pace. Naturally, I can only talk for myself. |

The main goal of the 30 minutes is to build your ability to skate technicaly for a long period of time, this is critical as it can't be done at higher speed.
We aim for 70% as this is endurance pace, if you are a faster guy, you can go lower... to a sprint position if it is required. If you struggle to follow your pack you can either drop the speed so you can practice.
We will work on adjusting the speed and groups so that we can really focus on the technic.
Don't get me wrong though it's great to be able to operate at the speed group 1 was doing on sunday, and done right we will go back to those speed shortly as we work on getting the technique perfect. |

I think I was aware of my technique for 3/4s of that 30mins, but only tried to practice it for 2/3s of it...the rest was either easing off and standing up, or just keeping pace.
It definitely helped skating behind George "Oats!" as he skates lower than I do...Toby also helped as when I looked back, I'd be looking down at his helmet so was concious to get lower again.
I'm sort of glad Gill was nowhere to be seen, but it's a shame she wasn't skating with us - you ok? |
