Anyone thinking of a late registration? David, Kate, Tom, Ray?

Naomi you have been put in the cat 4s so I expect you to kick some arse if you stay focussed. AlastairJ you are still there too so I think you will do very well.

Who is coming in my motor? I have offered a lift to Daryl if he wants to come. That still leaves 3 spaces Naomi? Alastair? Erika?

Just turn up. According to the list I received from John Fry, you are registered. You will need to go to the desk to check in. Don't forget your race numbers and pins.

Have a great time in Birmingham folks - plenty of medals and a load of fun.

I'll be stuck here in the London sunshine skating along the thames to Ealing.

I hope you've all had a good day in Birmingham. Hope your feet have recovered, Farhana.

Raymond rang a while ago from Ealing. They enjoyed skating along the River, Natasha. Three and a half hours - sounds as though it was my pace! I'll have to try it some time.

Meanwhile, I've been home doing exciting things like laundry and housework (someone has to  Sad ) Daughter and granddaughter over from Paris later this week, so I did have to find the back bedroom - buried in skates which will be sold one day - I hope!

Weather permitting, I'll see you at Tatem on Tuesday.

Weather held out nicely. Bit cold in the breeze from time to time but no thunderstorms. Racing was top drawer. Intercategory was fun Hans and Farhana both managed to get through the first three rounds so wer in the last eight with the possibility of being drawn against each other. Didn't happen in the end. Medals for Tom 3rd in Cat 4, Farhana 2nd in Cat 5 and Natasha (and trophie) for 1st in Cat 5/6 Devils.

About 50 skaters on the day which is more than at any race since the club started and probably for a lot longer. It's only 130 miles away from central London. 120 from my house so who's coming to the next one there? British Outdoor champs in 5 weeks.

My feet are healing nicely Helen. I managed to put my new rec skates on Sunday and managed to skate ok. Came away with a medal I didn't expect.
It was a good team turnout.  Fantastic weather. Great Team spirit. It was a great day all round.  All the people in the team skated hard.  well done to all.
My first experience of inter cat knock out. what fun !!! Hans got booed for beating little Lewis on the line Smile

Thanks Erika for the 'good luck to the team' message.

[ caution: really old thread, bumped ]

Rick wrote:
I think you are a cat 3/4 We can discuss with the officials on the day. Can you do a timed 500m of Tatem Park from a standing start? It can help if you've got someone to race against. You can do it as many times as you like but if you get under 1m05s on a dry non-windy day you are cat 3. Under 0:58 and you are looking at getting into cat 2 over 1:14 and cat 5. Times are not exact but that should give you a good idea.

Are these times still about right (they don't sound it, based on this evening) or do they relate to the old system before an extra category was added?  If the latter, what are the approximate thresholds now?

6th category was put in last year and took us by surprise as nobody bothered to tell us so we didn't have enough medals for our club race.
I'd also say the standard went up last year as the same kids got a year older and improved such that 58s-1m is now about the borderline for 3/4.

Have you got any details for Birmingham 2006 or can we assume that last year's info is reasonably OK to enter Matt in Cat 3 races on 7 May?

Matt will be in Cat 3 all season unless he is clearly not suited to it. You can't pick and choose your categories per race you have to stick to the same one until FISS put you somewhere else. I think he is clearly suited to it given his performance on Sunday. Put most of us to shame.  Very Happy
