Please find attached a press release for the “The Danube by Bike Tour”, which has been launched by the European Commission, Directorate -General for Enlargement. A dedicated website has also been set up giving further information the Tour: www.danubebybike.eu.
Cyclists from all over Europe (EU member states, Western Balkan countries and Turkey), regardless of experience, are being invited to join the first European Bike Tour along the Danube which will take place from 23 June to 27 June 2009. Participation in the Tour and accommodation during the Tour is free, but travel costs are not covered. The Tour will follow the European Danube Cycling track leading participants through five countries and can choose between two different routes.
The "Danube by Bike Tour 2009" is an opportunity to bring together cycle enthusiasts from all over the European Union and South East Europe. It aims to raise awareness about the countries in Southeast Europe, and highlight the importance of taking a collaborative approach in working together to protect this precious and special eco-system, which is so vital for the socio-economic prosperity of the region.
