I was thrown off the last flight to London from Paris CGD on Sunday night because I was carrying skates in my hand luggage!! I had to return to Paris late at night during the transport strike and eventually buy a new ticket the next day.... I was furious!

The circumstances: I had no hold luggage. The queue for security was very long, and by the time I reached the front it was only 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time. The security staff refused to let me take the skates on board and told me to register my bag to go in the hold. However by this time the British Airways baggage registration staff had gone off duty. I went back to ask to board the plane but was refused again, and finally escorted out of the terminal by police. There was nothing in writing to say that roller skates are prohibited when I asked to see such documentation.

I am going to complain and would like to be able to say in my letter which airports permit rollerblades, as I know many of us travel with skates in hand luggage, as I myself have done so before.

I would be very grateful if all of you could post here a message with a list of airports where you have been allowed to board planes with skates in hand luggage and also those where you have been refused.

Thanks!  AlastairJ

I addition to some of the previously mentioned airports, there were no problems at:

Stockholm-Arlanda ARN
Stockholm-Bromma
Palma, Mallorca

I was stopped at Berlin Tegel , but  luckily had time to check them in the hold. Since then I don't risk it any where.

Thanks for all your comments, guys, which is very helpful! It seems there is no global rule across countries and airports so it often comes down to local practices.

Actually it comes down to individuals.
I remember one flight to Sardinia, where we went from Munich, all fine with skates strapped to the backpack, and later we were told that the other day people were refused to take them.

However there seems to be a general ban for sports equipment, so they might be OK to stop you.  Evil or Very Mad
