Skills and drills tonight, meeting at 19.30. It's a lovely surface to skate on.
Forecast is for dry and cold, very cold tonight! |

| It seems very focused on the Paliament Square end of Whitehall rather than the Square so fingers crossed. |

Does anyone fancy meeting for a ( hot! ) drink and/or snack beforehand?
I've no idea where mind... somewhere on the Strand I perhaps... with nearby bike stands... |

Yup, cheers Mike.
I think I worked out my problem going one footed on the inside leg/outside edge... it feels like lots of supination, leading to my ankle not being in a strong enough position.
I now remember working this out last winter and not getting far with trying to rectify it, but I seemed to get a lot further tonight.
Watching Sparky he did the same a few times at least. I don't know if others do... I've got a feeling it might a bad habit from quads ( well it might be a good habit on quads, I don't know! ). |

Yeah, I'm wondering if your front foot pronation on tight turns is not muscle memory from quad skating, Sparky? Barrie, it sounds like you're talking about the opposite, too much supination?
I feel that a tiny amount of supination is perfect, but the actual edge is mostly a function of leaning into the turn sufficiently with your whole body. Pronation is not good on inlines though, as it generates loads of rolling resistance and will fight the turn. |

| Thanks for the session Mike. I think I got something out of it (besides the bruises) |

I'm talking about my inside foot being on too much of an outside edge, due to my ankle being bent over ( well, bent under I suppose ). If I just coast it's fine-ish AFAIK, but as soon as I push, over it goes.
Sparky did the same about 50% of the bit of time that time I was watching him for it, but not at all the other times, all or nothing... I've no idea if that's common for him or not.
Anyway, if I straighten my ankle, it feels much stronger and more stable ( unsurpisingly I think ), so I think my lack of confidence doing that outside edge carve one footed is largely due to the lack of strength and stability... so a lot of re-learning to do there this winter... I found it pretty hard to commit to in that position. |

| Yeah you want the wheels/frame and your shin to be a mostly straight line because it's stronger. Sparky was originally doing the opposite to you and what you saw may have been him working on correcting it. |

Turning clockwise leading with my right foot I am much less comfortable finding the correct amount of supranational.
My right ankle is definitely my weaker ankle which I'm intending to strenghten this year. |
