For my V-braked hybrid with 16mm rims.

It came with 28mm ( currently got 23s, but they're going on the road bike ), but I think 28mm might still be a bit skinny for the paths around Wombledon Common, and the like...

Any suggestions for size and/or make/model recommendations?

I was looking at something like this, in 32mm, but I've no idea if that's a sensible size or the right degree and type of knobbliness! ( I was hoping for something with a flatter middle for tarmac, and knobblier sides ).

I used some Schwalbe CX Comps for this kind of stuff - they were fairly good at everything.

Conti Speed Cross are also worth looking at. They came on my cross bike and worked quote well for everything, even 40 mile road jaunts and Muddy Hell.

Not much puncture proofing though so if you are looking for resilience just get some marathons in 32c and run them at 60psi for grip.

Thanks Howard, the Schwalbe ones look good, exactly the sort of tread pattern I was thinking of, shame their puncture resistance isn't up to much ( judging from your comment and one on CRC ).

I think I punctured on the Schwalbe CX tyers once in the two years I had them. Reckon I did about 500 miles on the pair including fairly heavy off road at the New Forest, forty mile on/off rides to Windsor and trails at Swinley. In terms of resistance they worked fine for me. YMMV. Francois has a pair too IIRC.

They even worked in the snow Smile

£24 / pair is worth a punt.

They are very cheap for sure, but punctures on the way to work are not Confused ( in terms of aggro rather than £s ).  Quite possibly still worth a punt, though, definitely the best looking tread pattern I've seen ( for what I think I want... ).

If puncture protection is the number one priority just get some Marathons or Conti Top Contact?

If all you are doing is paths and light trails I wouldn't be too bothered about the tread.

Cool, yeah it looks like a couple of different marathons are good compromise, or maybe the Spec. Infinity Armadillo that I've just spotted.

I'll have another peak in Evans after work today and see what they've got.
